Hardship and difficulty

Some people have to go through many hardship and difficulty in life, while some people don't need to go through any hardship or difficulty at all.

It doesn't mean that those who have been and/or are undergoing some kind of hardship and difficulty in life are any less good, or less smart, or less deserving than those who don't need to go through any hardship and difficulty, and vice versa.

It's definitely nothing to do with what the worldly minded think and believe as the presence and absence of past accumulated and present generated good and/or bad karma.

Many wise and compassionate selfless beings had/have to go through many different kinds of hardship and difficulty, during their limited selfless impermanent worldly life existence, before and even after they attained self-realization or enlightenment.

Upon undergoing prolonged ongoing hardship and difficulty, some people might become more ignorant, corrupt, selfish, bitter, hard, and cruel, while some people might become more wise, understanding, open, cheerful, gentle, and kind.

Similarly, upon the presence of easiness and enjoyment in life, some people might become more proud and arrogant, clinging onto easy and enjoyable conditions and experiences, while some people might realize the fleeting impermanence in all kinds of names and forms, regardless of easy or difficult conditions, and pleasant or unpleasant experiences, and develop a firm foundation in non-attachment and letting go.

Hardship and difficulty are neither good nor bad. It's up to this mind.

One might become less and less ignorant, selfish, hard, bitter, and hurtful, or, one might become more and more ignorant, selfish, hard, bitter, and hurtful.

What does this mind choose to become?

Be free.

The middle path - Neither too tight nor too loose

For the minds that sincerely want to realize yoga/selflessness/unconditional peace, they need to know what is the middle path, and adopt the middle path in everyday life's relationships, affairs, duties, and responsibilities, as well as in the physical and mental yoga and meditation practice.

When it's time to rest, one rests.

When it's time to be active, one be active.

When it's time to retreat, one retreats.

When it's time to move forward, one moves forward.

When it's time to exert energy, one exerts energy.

When it's time to conserve energy, one conserves energy.

When it's time to eat, one eats.

When it's time to sleep, one sleeps.

When it's time to perform action, one performs action.

When it's time to be silence, one be silent.

There's nothing wrong if the yoga practitioner still have to be living among the worldly passionate egoistic society, and have to be spending approximately 2/3 of one's life existence into the family/social inputs, outputs, affairs, interactions, activities, relationships, duties, and responsibilities, as well as making a living to support oneself and those under one's care, and spending certain amount of time into performing specific physical and mental yoga practice, while spending the rest of one's life existence into sleeping. Although one is sort of being inactive and alone by oneself during the time of sleeping, it's highly important for the yoga practitioner to also reserve a few moments to be alone in solitude and seclusion, in silence and inaction (including not performing any specific physical and mental yoga practice, or so called spiritual practice), while awake, being away/cut off from all kinds of worldly and/or spiritual inputs, outputs, affairs, interactions, activities, relationships, duties, and responsibilities, and eventually, prolonged the moments of being in silence, in solitude and seclusion.

That alone, will allow the mind to develop essential understanding towards the selfless impermanent modification of the selfless mind, and to attain direct self-realization towards selflessness and impermanence, even if under the absence of a personal teacher or guru.

Many passionate minds might see and criticize the practice of solitude and seclusion, or dispassion and renunciation, as a form of extremity, but, it is indeed an essential part of the middle path that will lead the mind towards knowing Thyself.

Inquire the truth of everything.

If the mind knows and understands

If the mind knows and understands towards impermanence and selflessness, and the nature's law of cause and effect, it will be resting in peace, as it is.

It is devoid of the idea of 'I'.

The sense of separateness and discrimination, the sense of superiority and inferiority, the sense of low/high self-esteem, the sense of belonging and possessiveness, or all kinds of duality of success and failure, achievement and non-achievement, enjoyment and suffering, deserving and non-deserving, meaningfulness and meaninglessness, positiveness and negativeness, goodness and badness, joyfulness and joylessness, pride and shame, inspiration and aspiration, and so on, as well as castes, sects, ranks, titles, social status, superstitions, fairy tales, hypocrisy, manipulations, untruthfulness, justification, and etc, don't exist in it.

It is desireless, and hence, it is fearless.

It won't feel disturbed, hurt, intimidated, bullied, threatened, belittled, humiliated, annoyed, provoked or disappointed by anyone and anything, even if other minds have the intention to behave in the way that meant to be disturbing, hurting, intimidating, bullying, threatening, belittling, humiliating, annoying, provoking or disappointing others.

It can be disagreeing with and non-empowering other minds and their thinking/belief/values/desires/behavior/action/reaction under the influence of ignorance and egoism, while it won't have anger and hatred or discrimination and bias treatment towards anyone and anything.

All minds have the freedom for being what they are, as they are.

It can be performing or not performing certain actions that might or might not ignite certain awareness/reflection or bring certain improvement into the world of ignorance and egoism, without intention to be controlling or influencing anyone and anything to be or not to be in certain way, without expectation towards anyone and anything has to be or not to be in certain way.

The selfless intentionless mirror has the selfless intentionless purpose that serves as a selfless reflector that reflects the reflection of all kinds of objects being reflected upon it, but whether the objects perceive and see their reflection upon the mirror, or not, and how they perceive and react towards their reflection, it's their own freedom and responsibility.

The difference between a selfless mirror and a selfless perceptive cognitive intellectual emotional thinking acting mind, is that the mirror doesn't have the awareness, thinking faculty and mobility (freewill and survival instinct) to act/react/decide upon whether to move away from any detrimental harsh and critical conditions and situations, while the selfless mind has the selfless limited and conditional awareness, thinking faculty and mobility to act/react/decide upon whether to move away, or not, from any conditions and situations, as well as how and when it acts/reacts/decides, either under the influence of ignorance and the by-products of ignorance, or free from the influence of ignorance and all those by-products of ignorance.

Selflessness and compassion (fearlessness, contentment, simplicity, desirelessness, dispassion, renunciation, non-attachment, non-identification, non-craving, non-aversion, non-judgment, non-discrimination, non-expectation, respecting the nature's law of cause and effect, and etc) doesn't mean that the mind should deny as well as empower all kinds of ignorance, or shouldn't disagree with and protest against all kinds of ignorant ideas, affairs and behaviors, or doesn't perform actions to be looking after the general well-being of oneself and others and the surrounding environment, or shouldn't move away from any detrimental harsh and critical conditions and situations if there is possibility to do so.

It can be living in seclusion and solitude or living among the diverse society, and it can be in action or inaction, while it is kind and friendly towards all and everyone as it is, without discrimination, desire, intention or expectation towards all and everyone or the world should or shouldn't be in certain way.

It is at peace, unconditionally, being undetermined and undisturbed by all kinds of selfless impermanent changes, affairs, events, relationships, ties and connections, interactions, activities, conditions and situations in the world.

It is devoid of grief and painful sorrow, guilt and regret, missing and longing.

Because it knows and understands that all the minds that would think, believe, desire, behave, act and react in the way that is disturbing, destructive, violent, cruel, damaging and hurtful towards oneself and others and the surrounding environment, regardless of whether intentionally or unintentionally, it is because these minds are functioning under the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness, while being ignorant towards all that. These minds are ill, or not well, even though from the appearance, they might appear to be achieving and enjoying many things in many ways. They are not free, even if they think and believe that they are highly powerful, being on top of the world, and can have anything exactly the way that they desire, but then, none and nothing can escape, or conquer, or change the truth of selflessness and impermanence, and the nature's law of cause and effect.

Even though none can escape, or conquer, or change the truth of selflessness and impermanence, and the nature's law of cause and effect, however, one can transcend all that while not being determined by all that, upon knowing and understanding all that via self-inquiry and self-realization by purifying, disciplining and quieting the modification of the mind, and thus, be free from ignorance and the suffering arising from ignorance.

If the mind is in a state of suffering/violence/disturbance/hurts/disappointment/anger/hatred/painful sorrow, and so on, that is because this mind doesn't know and hasn't realize/understand towards selflessness and impermanence, and the nature's law of cause and effect.

Out of ignorance, the mind thinks and believes that its state of suffering is inflicted/caused by the names and forms that it experiences, that it thinks and believes as 'bad', 'wrong', 'negative', 'terrible', 'unpleasant', 'hurtful', 'disturbing', 'disappointing', 'intimidating', 'sorrowful', 'anger and hatred deserving', and so on.

Out of such incorrect understanding (the presence of ignorance, and being ignorant towards ignorance), the mind would behave/act/react in the way that is disturbing, destructive, violent, cruel, damaging and hurtful towards oneself and others and the surrounding environment. The world is indeed full of minds that are in such state.

Anger and hatred, or aversion and violence towards the minds that are being perceived as ignorant, selfish, greedy, cruel, wrongful and evil due to ignorance and egoism, doesn't stop them from being what they are, and it won't help the minds that are under the influence of ignorance and egoism to be free from ignorance and egoism.

The highest duty and responsibility of all minds in this world, is to look after one's mind, to have correct understanding, and have peace. Without all these, everything else is nothing.

Without correct understanding and peace, there will be ceaseless disturbance and violence in oneself, that spreads into the surrounding community and environment, that affect all and everyone and everything locally and globally.

The highest liberation/freedom/independence, is being free from ignorance and the by-products of ignorance.

The highest power/ability/knowledge is not about achieving/possessing/enjoying/knowing/experiencing/creating many things, but it is the power/ability/knowledge of letting go everything.

The condition and situation in the world that doesn't belong to anyone, is exactly the reflection of the state of mental health of many minds.

Inquire the truth of everything, and be free.

Guru?

The mind that identifies itself as a 'Guru' to some others is not really a Guru.

The mind that identifies an external 'Guru' as its greatest Guru still hasn't found the Guru yet.

The one and only greatest Guru is the selfless mind itself.

The external Guru is anyone and anything or any experiences that enables the mind to see the one and only Guru from within (of knowing Thyself), or to see the truth of selflessness and impermanence in all and everything, where all and everything are the teachers and the teachings or Dhamma, transcending all kinds of names and forms or duality.

Be free.

The basic yoga practice in the yoga class

What do the yoga students learn and practice in the yoga class?

Regardless of what are the different backgrounds, experiences, physical and mental conditions, and intentions of the yoga students, all and everyone are learning and practicing about compassion and non-violence without forcing the body and mind beyond its limitation, respecting the body and mind in the present moment now as they are, desirelessness/intentionlessness, detaching from worldly passionate egoistic traits, turning the mind inward focusing on the yoga practice, being in the present moment, letting go the past pleasant and unpleasant experiences, letting go the future hopeful or fearful anticipation, observing the impermanent changes, observing what is going on in the body and mind, going beyond the impermanent physical condition and the impermanent state of the mind, developing patience, acceptance, adjustment, adaptation, accommodation, forbearance, determination, perseverance, self-discipline, self-responsibility, self-independence, non-blind agreeing/disagreeing, non-blind believing, non-blind following, non-blind practicing, non-blind propagating, non-attachment, non-identification, non-craving, non-aversion, non-judgment, non-comparison, and non-expectation, during the process of learning and performing the different yoga asana poses and exercises, the breathing exercises, the concentration exercises, the sound vibration exercises, and the relaxation.

What the body can do or cannot do in the present moment, is not important.

What the mind knows or doesn't know in the present moment, is not important.

What the mind likes and agrees with or dislikes and disagrees with, is not important.

The mind doesn't need to do or practice what it dislikes and disagrees with, or feels uncomfortable with.

It's about not attaching towards what the mind perceives in the present moment now. Without craving towards what is pleasant and agreeable. Without aversion towards what is unpleasant and disagreeable. All and everything is impermanent.

Allow the mind to take its own pace to be opened, or not.

Do one's best while performing all actions, and allow the fruit of actions being what it is.

Open minded - Non blind-believing, non blind-following, non blind-agreeing or blind-disagreeing, non blind-practicing, and non blind-propagating.

Inquire towards the truth of everything, including all the teachings of yoga, coming from anyone and anywhere.

The different intentions for learning and practicing yoga

There's neither right nor wrong, neither good nor bad with all kinds of different intentions.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention of wanting to be able to perform many of the yoga asana poses, particularly the yoga poses that are physically and/or mentally more challenging for them.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for empowering their sense of confidence, self-esteem, or self-worth.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for enhancing their physical health or mental health, or both.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for enhancing their physical fitness appearance and condition, stamina, strength and flexibility.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for losing or gaining body weight.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for rehabilitating from certain physical injury and/or illness.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for recovering from certain mental disturbance or emotional hurt.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for dealing with certain mental health issues.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for attaining physical and/or mental relaxation, or to be releasing certain physical tension and/or mental stress.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention of merely to be following or keeping up with the latest 'trends' in the world.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention of engaging in certain leisure activities for passing time.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for attaining 'spiritual healing', or 'spiritual connection', or 'spiritual achievement'.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention of to be attending yoga teachers training course for becoming a certified yoga instructor to be teaching yoga fitness exercise classes of particular style or many different styles as a profession/job/career.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for wanting to know what is yoga.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for wanting to be free from suffering, or to escape from something that are unpleasant and undesirable.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for knowing Thyself, to understand about themselves, and life existence.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention of to be experimenting yoga.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for attaining inner peace.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention for upholding peace and harmony in the world of diversities that doesn't belong to anyone.

Some minds have a combination of different intentions that motivate them to start learning and practicing yoga.

Some minds begin their yoga practice because they were being 'forced' into it not out of their own freewill or interest, such as for their own reasons, certain parents want their children to be engaging in some yoga activities, or certain people want their spouse or partner to be engaging in some yoga activities.

Some minds begin their yoga practice just because they have accepted a challenge from someone else, or for any kind of reason, other than oneself is being interested in yoga under certain intention.

Some minds begin their yoga practice without any intention, or don't even know why they want to learn and practice yoga, but somehow they ended up in learning and performing some kind of yoga practice.

Some minds don't even interested in the teachings or practice of yoga, but only interested in knowing enough about the many different types, brands and styles of yoga classes to be running a 'franchise' yoga school, yoga centre, yoga studio, yoga club, or yoga retreat centre, to use yoga as a type of 'commercial product and service' for a commercial money making business.

Some minds begin their yoga practice with the intention of trying to attain some sort of 'super extraordinary mind power', to be chasing after 'transcendental mystical experiences', or under certain reasons, to be able to 'control' or 'influence' some other minds for something.

Some minds are interested in doing some research about yoga, however they don't necessarily want to learn and practice yoga, but they are interested in knowing about the mind and the mind behavior pattern or the human's behavior pattern.

Regardless of what are the different intentions or motivations that has initiated the minds to be learning and practicing yoga, or to be interested in knowing what is yoga or the mind, in the end, it will still be about leading the minds towards weakening and eradicating egoism of attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, judgment, comparison, and expectation, to be developing correct understanding, to be reflecting upon the mind itself (oneself), to be realizing the truth of selflessness and impermanence, that leads to be annihilating ignorance and the by-products of ignorance.

It's about being grateful for all kinds of intention or reason that had initiated the mind into the yoga practice, but then eventually dropping off any kinds of intention or reason, while allowing the effect, or the result, or the fruit of the practice, to be there as it is, without attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, judgment, comparison, or expectation.

It doesn't matter in the end, the mind still hasn't attained correct understanding towards the teachings and practice of yoga. There's no judgment or expectation that all minds will be evolving in certain way or not in certain way. All minds are responsible for their own intentions, and their actions and the consequences of actions.

Inquire the truth of everything.

Responsibility, commitment engaging, risk taking, and decision making

Responsibility, commitment engaging, risk taking, and decision or choice making, can be difficult or troublesome for some minds. There's nothing wrong or bad with that, as life is still what it is, selfless and impermanent, regardless of whether the mind has or doesn't have difficulty in having certain responsibility, engaging in certain commitment, taking certain risk, or making certain decision and what are the decisions made.

It's okay, sometimes the mind doesn't like and doesn't want certain responsibility or commitment, or doesn't want to take certain risk, or doesn't want to be responsible towards making certain decision. More importantly, is that the mind has no attachment, identification, comparison, or judgment towards all that, and is still peaceful as one is.

But there are quite some minds are being disturbed by all that, and have no peace, as they are being over-whelmed by the sense of guilt or regret most of the time. No matter what or how, taking or not taking certain responsibility and commitment, making or not making certain decision, and choosing this or that, the minds will always feel regret, thinking that maybe the other option is better than this option that it has taken or chosen.

All and everything has inevitable risk that is not necessarily pleasant, desirable and agreeable. Just by being existing here in this world, has certain risk. Not making any movements or not going anywhere, also has certain risk. Being here has certain risk. Being somewhere else also has certain risk. Every single choice/decision/desire/movement/step/action/reaction/non-action/non-reaction also has certain risk, either common or uncommon, expected or unexpected, directly or indirectly.

Most of the time, one gains something while loosing something in any decision or choice.

The mind that is not spending most of the time and energy into working or making a living in the present, might not be generating any income, but then it can have the free time and energy to be doing and enjoying certain things that it didn't manage to do or enjoy while it was being busy generating income, and vice versa.

When the mind knows how to live in the present moment, and appreciates what is here in the present moment, devoid of craving towards something that is not here, devoid of aversion towards something that is here, it will have no problem being here or there, doing this or not doing that.

Making decision, or having desire, or performing action, is not that difficult, as well as 'claiming' the responsibility towards 'the desirable and agreeable consequences or outcome of one's desire, choice and action that is the way that how one thinks and desires it to be' is not troublesome at all.

It's 'the reluctance' or 'the fear' towards taking 'the responsibility' or 'the risk' towards 'the possible consequences or outcome of one's desire, choice and action that are not necessarily desirable or agreeable the way that how one thinks and desires it to be', or 'the reluctance' towards being responsible for 'the consequences that come along with engaging in certain commitments out of one's own desire and choice', that is why the minds think and feel that they have difficulty or trouble with commitment engaging and decision or choice making.

It's something in common that many minds have difficulty towards making certain decision or choice, or taking certain responsibilities, or engaging in certain commitments, particularly when there are more and more confusions, lies, hypocrisy and disappointments arising and existing in this world of ignorance, egoism, separateness, discrimination, fear, greed, possessiveness, and selfishness, where people don't know, or can't really tell the difference between true and false anymore, or what they should believe or disbelieve anymore.

The mind needs to realize what is selflessness, in order to understand about responsibility, as well as not to be afraid towards taking responsibility, even though all and everything are selfless, and impermanent (uncertainty).

Selflessness, where there's no 'I', or an infinite existence of a permanent independent individual identity to be responsible towards all kinds of selfless impermanent changes, or cause and effect, as well as, all and everything depending on the supportive selfless elements and selfless energy to be existing and functioning, it doesn't mean that there's no responsibility in anyone (the selfless body and mind) towards their own life existence, their own thinking, belief/disbelief, reasoning, understanding, choices, desires, behavior, actions and reactions, and the consequences of all that.

Coming into this selfless impermanent worldly life existence of the selfless function of a selfless impermanent body and perceptive thinking mind, it's not out of anyone's own desire or choice, because there were/are many minds didn't/don't intent or desire to be existing here (in a selfless impermanent world of inevitable suffering of restlessness or selfless impermanent changes, that is also full of unnecessary suffering deriving from ignorance and the consequences of ignorance), but they were/are here, selflessly and reluctantly, under the cause generated out of the desire and action of the parents, either intentionally or unintentionally.

Merely by being existing and functioning selflessly and impermanently here in this world, there come along with certain inevitable duties and responsibilities towards upholding the survival or life maintenance of this body and mind, towards looking after the over-all well-being of oneself and/or some others, and towards looking after the surrounding living environment that support the life maintenance of this body and mind.

No doubt that, if without the parents generated the cause that gives rise to the forming of this selfless body and mind, this body and mind doesn't exist, and hence, the parents are indeed responsible for the initial cause for the existence and function of this body and mind.

The parents' genetic inheritance, mentality, behavior, and parenting method can be influencing the genetic condition, the physical and mental ability and limitation, way of thinking, belief/disbelief, reasoning, understanding, desire and doesn't desire, behavior, actions, and reactions of this body and mind, up to a certain extend, particularly before this body and mind developed physical and mental maturity or independence.

While upon reaching certain degrees of physical and mental maturity or independence, the mind has the basic awareness, understanding and cognition towards this body and mind can have choices towards choosing and building its own particular way of living, different types of commitment or responsibility, way of thinking, belief/disbelief, reasoning, understanding, desires or doesn't desires, behavior, action and inaction, and to be making its own decision on many things in life, that will give rise to certain consequences that are not necessarily exactly the way that how the mind thinks, desires and expects how it should be, but that's okay. The selfless mind can choose whether it wants or doesn't want to be looking after the over-all well-being of this body and mind in certain way or not in certain way, or how it wants and doesn't want to think and behave, under its own way of thinking, reasoning, understanding, desire, choice, and action. All that are not the responsibility of the parents, but this body and mind itself.

The selfless elements and energy are only being what they are, selflessly forming and supporting the selfless existence and selfless function of the physical body and mind out of an existing cause that doesn't come from the selfless elements and energy at all, but it's deriving from the desire and action of the parents of this body and mind, either intentionally or unintentionally.

Without the supportive selfless elements and energy, all bodies and minds don't exist or function. The selfless elements and energy are responsible for forming and supporting the existence and function of all bodies and minds, but they are not responsible for the particular way of thinking, belief/disbelief, reasoning, understanding, decision and choice making, desires and don't desires, behavior, actions and reactions, as well as the consequences of all that, of any particular body and mind. It's the responsibility of each and every selfless mind itself.

There are many minds would justify upon behaving/acting/reacting hurtfully and destructively unto oneself and/or others and the surrounding environment and objects out of disturbance, dissatisfaction, disappointment, unhappiness, anger, and vengeance, "It's not me. Don't blame me. It's the energy. It's the elements. It's the hormones. It's all those bad people. It's my bad and irresponsible parents. It's all those bad and wrong things that have been happening to me in my life. It's because of you, that's why I am doing this. It's because of them, that's why I am behaving/acting/reacting like that."

Even if there are certain decisions and choices, desires and don't desires, or action and inaction in life might be made in accordance to the wish/desire/influence of the parents or some others, with the intention to be pleasing the parents or some others in life, or not to be offending the parents or some others, or to be gaining certain things or reactions in return, or merely to be surviving, or to have less complications in life, but all those decisions, choices, desires, don't desires, action and inaction out of any kind of intention or reason, is still the responsibility of the mind itself.

This body and mind feels happy or unhappy about something or someone, and reacts and behaves in certain way out of happiness or unhappiness, it's its own responsibility. It's not the responsibility of its parents or the selfless elements and energy that are selflessly supporting the existence and function of this body and mind. It is also not the responsibility of that something or someone that the mind feels happy or unhappy about.

The mind is the one that decides whether to be determined or undetermined by certain names and forms. The mind is the one that decides whether to be disturbed or undisturbed, to feel hurt or unhurt, to be attached or unattached, to let go or not letting go, to be happy or unhappy, to make certain decision, or not, to have certain commitment, or not, and to behave/act/react ignorantly and hurtfully or wisely and compassionately.

There are certain physical discomfort or inevitable muscular soreness/tightness during and after certain physical activities or training, or there are certain mental discomfort or inevitable mental/emotional disturbance/pain during and after certain mental activities or training.

The mind has the desire and choice to be learning and performing certain fitness training, or not, and to be participating or not participating in a fitness training session or exercise class under the instructions or guidance of certain instructor. It's the full responsibility of this mind for its engagement in the fitness training session or exercise class, to be looking after its own well-being, without forcing or hurting itself, during the process of learning and performing the fitness training or exercises, regardless of whether it is self-learning and self-practice, or there is an instructor being there giving certain instructions or guidance to be performing certain movements, exercises, or training. It's the full responsibility of the mind itself whether to be performing all, or partial, or none of the movements or training (taking rest), at what timing, speed and intensity, depending on the condition of the body and mind in the present moment.

Similarly, in the process of learning and performing certain yoga practice or implementing certain teachings of yoga in everyday life. The yoga student or practitioner takes full responsibility towards itself for all its action/inaction and consequences of action/inaction. The teachers and the teachings are just being what they are, delivering the teachings and practice to the students, but it's the student's full responsibility towards what it wants or doesn't want to practice, depending on the condition of the body and mind in the present moment.

The minds that know non-attachment, non-identification, non-craving, non-aversion, non-judgment and non-expectation, that are not being determined by duality of success and failure, or good and bad, or accomplishment and non-accomplishment, or agreeable and disagreeable, or desirable and undesirable, they can take the responsibility towards the consequences or outcome of all their decisions, choices and actions as it is. They will have no difficulty or problem in decision or choice making, risk taking, commitment engaging, as well as performing all the existing 'not by one's own desire or choice' inevitable worldly duties and responsibilities that come along with this selfless impermanent life existence in this world.

That is also why the teachings and practice of yoga and/or buddhism about self-inquiry, self-realization, meditation, mental and emotional independence, renunciation, dispassion, seclusion and solitude, that is mainly about self-compassion, self-effort, self-reliance, or self-help, is more and more relevant in this time being, before the mind loses its precious sanity, or the precious ability and clarity to be reasoning everything, to have peace during the momentary limited life existence of being existing and functioning here, that directly and indirectly affecting the over-all well-being of the body and mind, that is influencing the behavior, action and reaction of the perceptive thinking and acting mind in certain way, that affects the surrounding living environment of a world of many diversities that doesn't belong to anyone.

To have peace in oneself, is indeed the biggest duty and responsibility of all minds that are momentarily co-existing and sharing this space of the universe that doesn't belong to anyone or anything.

Peace isn't being built on, or be obtained through 'controlling' or 'making' the world and life existence in this space that doesn't belong to anyone to be the way that 'I' and/or 'we' think and believe and desire how it should be.

Peace is always there, as it is, upon the minds are free from the influence of ignorance, the idea of 'I', egoism, impurities, and restlessness, where no mind tries to claim ownership/possession/authority/control towards the world of many diversities in this space that doesn't belong to anyone, to be the way that 'I' and/or 'we' think and believe and desire how it should be, while respecting all kinds of diversities being what they are, to have their own way of everything, allowing all minds whether to take their own initiative to be free from the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness, or not, at their own cause and pace, or to have the most important FREEDOM of existence to be existing in this space, and to have the FREEDOM of being, to be what they are, and not being discriminated, threatened, oppressed, prosecuted, punished, intimidated, bullied, or hurt, for being existing in this space, and being what they are.

The existence of OPENNESS, or the FREEDOM of existence and being, to be what all and everyone are, is the only way that enabling the ignorant egoistic impure confused suffering minds to have the opportunity or the initiation to reflect upon itself, to be initiative to free itself from the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness, and the consequences of all that - all kinds of destructive hurtful damaging behavior, actions and reactions that hurt oneself and others and the surrounding environment during their momentary existence and function in this world, out of its own freewill via its own awareness, understanding, self-discipline, and self-effort.

It doesn't matter if the mind cannot 'trust' or 'rely on' anyone or anything anymore, but one cannot loose 'the trust' or 'the self-reliance' that is always there accommodating itself unconditionally during its selfless impermanent limited existence.

Need not to be afraid of 'Aloneness', 'Solitude', 'Seclusion', 'Renunciation', 'Dispassion', 'Silence', 'Mental and emotional independence'. It's the way that leads towards the non-discriminating and all accommodating source, or peace, or dhamma, or knowledge, or teacher, or guru, that the selfless impermanent mind can 'trust' and 'rely on', when all and everything are falling apart (it will, sooner or later, because of the nature of impermanence in all and everything). That selfless, timeless and changeless, nameless and formless source/peace/dhamma/knowledge/teacher/guru is always there, being what it is, even when this particular selfless impermanent body and mind is constantly changing, decaying, and disintegrating, not to say, all kinds of names and forms being perceived through this selfless mind are constantly changing, decaying, and disintegrating.

Understanding

Understanding is an important element for peace in oneself, that is also essential for maintaining peace and harmony in the world of diversity that doesn't belong to anyone.

Not about expecting all minds to understand one another.

But, it's about the mind understands itself, or understands towards its own function and modification, or what is going on in itself.

Understanding how this mind functions, behaves, acts and reacts, and why does this mind function, behave, act and react in certain way.

There won't be any problem, disturb, hurt, discontentment, disappointment, anger, hatred, offensiveness, defensiveness, vengeance, fear, or unrest, in this mind, when this mind understands itself, even if there is no other mind can understand this mind, or any other minds, or themselves.

How other minds function, understand, behave, act and react in certain way or not in certain way, is everyone's own freedom.

One is not being determined, or influenced, or disturbed by how other minds function, understand, behave, act and react in certain way or not in certain way, if the mind understands itself.

The mind doesn't understand another mind is not that relevant, as most minds don't even understand themselves, and so, how can they understand other minds, even when they think and believe that they understand themselves and other minds, while expecting other minds to understand them.

Most important is that the mind understands itself, and has peace in oneself, regardless of all kinds of chaos in the world that is nothing but the reflection of all kinds of chaos in the minds.

Upon the presence of peace in oneself, one won't be generating disturbing hurtful damaging behavior, action and reaction into the world of diversity, which simultaneously contributing to maintaining peace and harmony in the world of diversity that doesn't belong to anyone, even if the world appears to be peaceless and disharmony due to the presence of unrest and disharmony a.k.a. the absence of peace and harmony in most minds, because of the absence of understanding towards oneself.

The yoga practice is mainly for the mind to develop and attain understanding towards itself, or know Thyself a.k.a Self-realization.

Hypocrisy, untruthfulness, backbiting and backstabbing

This teachings is for those who are interested in learning and practicing yoga and/or buddhism, and to be looking after the mental health of oneself and others. Those who are not interested in the teachings and practice of yoga and/or buddhism, or looking after the mental health of oneself and others, this is not for them.

No doubt that hypocrisy, untruthfulness, backbiting and backstabbing are very common and normal family, cultural and social values and practice that exist in many family ties, siblings, relationships, friendships, or in any kind of social connections, in order to keep those family ties, relationships, friendships and social connections to be continuously 'existing' and 'surviving', and to maintain certain degrees of so called 'peace and harmony' or 'bonding and cooperation' in all those human's family ties and social connections, however, those who truly want to practice yoga and/or buddhism, they need to abandon such common and normal values and practice, of what many minds think and believe as a 'normal', 'healthy', 'successful' and 'meaningful' way of life and conduct.

It's everyone's freedom for what and how they think, believe, practice, behave, act and react, or not. There's neither right nor wrong, and the world of human beings is very much being built on such hypocrisy and untruthfulness, or else all kinds of human ties and connections will not be able to sustain or survive, unless the minds are free from the influence of ignorance, egoism and impurities, where all kinds of human ties and connections are not being built on hypocrisy and untruthfulness, that exist under the absence of hypocrisy, untruthfulness, backbiting and backstabbing.

It's understandable that it can be very hard and challenging for many people to not being hypocrite and untruthful at all, or to be completely straightforward and truthful in all kinds of ties and connections, while at the same time, they might not be free from dislikes, disagreements and offensiveness towards certain or many things, and hence, they would prefer to express their dislikes, disagreements and offensiveness behind people's back, thinking that it won't cause any damaging effects.

Some people would think and believe while telling themselves and others, "Don't be so naive. There's nothing wrong, and it's very good to practice hypocrisy and untruthfulness, if we want to survive in this society, and to maintain certain degrees of 'peace and harmony' among everyone, while getting the cooperation from some others in order to achieve what we want to achieve. If we have any unhappiness, disagreements and complaints about some others, we can express it behind people's back behind closed door. If we want to hurt or attack our enemy, we always do it quietly behind their back. That's the way to become highly successful in this world." That's people's freedom of thinking, belief, desire and behavior, however, it's the opposite of the teachings and practice of yoga and/or buddhism.

That's why the essential teachings and practice of yoga and buddhism emphasized on the observation of renunciation and dispassion, seclusion and solitude, straightforwardness and truthfulness, and the eradication of egoism and impurities of greed, discontentment, dissatisfaction, anger, hatred, jealousy, pride, arrogance, fear, offensiveness, defensiveness, violence, ill thinking and ill will, and etc.

The minds that are mentally and emotionally dependent would be disturbed and hurt by the hypocrisy, untruthfulness, backbiting and backstabbing coming from others, especially coming from their own beloved family members and friends.

The minds that are mentally and emotionally independent are not at all being disturbed or hurt by such ignorant impure behavior of anyone, including one's beloved family members and friends. Not that they are emotionless, but they are aware of how the minds behave, act and react under the influence of ignorance, egoism and impurities. Neither will these minds be offended or intimidated by anything or anyone.

Those who are not interested in learning and practicing yoga and/or buddhism, who are not interested in looking after the mental health of oneself and others, they don't need to observe all these yoga and buddhism teachings and practice, and continuing their 'normal, healthy, successful and meaningful' way of life and conduct, as they are. Be happy.

Renunciation and dispassion is true compassion and unselfishness, and the highest duty and responsibility of humanity

Under the veil of ignorance and egoism, the observation of renunciation and dispassion is being seen as a form of selfishness, or even madness, by the worldly passionate egoistic minds.

Either it's coming from the practitioner itself, or it's coming from the family and friends of the practitioners, thinking and believing that being dispassionate or disinterested towards all kinds of selfless impermanent names and forms even if without the observation of renunciation, is something weird, abnormal, selfish, unhealthy or insane, not to say, if the practitioner also renounced the engagement in worldly passionate egoistic social, cultural, spiritual or religious affairs, family ties, social connections, communications, interactions and activities.

It's even more complicated, if the practitioner also renounced its worldly personal duty and responsibility towards the immediate family members, under certain reasonable circumstances, where either there are no immediate family members of elders or physical and mental illness sufferers that are financially, physically and mentally dependence, or the young children have already achieved financial, physical and mental independence, or there is somebody else would be willingly to take over the duty and responsibility from the practitioner to be looking after the elders or certain immediate family members that are financially, physically or mentally dependence, in order to be fully focusing on its practice to conquer the selfless restless impure modification of the mind.

If the mind is void of ignorance and egoism and the suffering deriving from ignorance and egoism, or it has already conquered its own restless impure modification of the mind, being free from ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness, and thus, it is being free from all kinds of mental or emotional suffering or disturbance, where it is resting in unconditional peace, not being determined by the mind perception towards all kinds of selfless impermanent qualities of names and forms, towards the absence and presence of pleasant and unpleasant, easy and difficult, desirable and undesirable life experiences, relationships, interactions, conditions and situations and impermanent changes, then this mind doesn't need to renounce anything, or to excuse oneself from certain worldly personal duty and responsibility in order to be looking after the well-being of oneself before one can truly look after all and everyone selflessly, effortlessly and efficiently.

As if under the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness, the mind is being over-whelmed, over-powered, disturbed and hammered by certain 'heavy burden' of personal duty and responsibility of looking after certain immediate family members who are financially, physically, mentally dependence, on top of being determined by the mind perception towards all kinds of selfless impermanent qualities of names and forms, towards the absence and presence of pleasant and unpleasant, easy and difficult, desirable and undesirable life experiences, relationships, interactions, conditions and situations and impermanent changes, then it is better and important for this mind to be looking after the over-all physical and mental well-being of itself, before it can perform all its personal duty and responsibility to be looking after some others, regardless of closed family members or the surrounding community, efficiently, without loosing one's over-all physical and mental well-being, while affecting all and everyone, as well as its duty and responsibility towards itself and some others, under the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness.

Nobody is going to have peace and harmony in general, not the mind that is performing its duty and responsibility to be looking after itself and some others, and not those who are being looking after by this mind that is not well physically and mentally, where the mind itself is struggling and drowning in certain mental and emotional disturbance and suffering, where this mind itself also needed to be looked after by some others, upon loosing its own physical and mental health, due to the presence of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness.

Similarly, in the society, or in the world of many diversities.

It might, and most probably will cause many unnecessary adverse consequences when the minds are being affectionate and ambitious of having the aspiration to be influencing, empowering, looking after and caring towards many others in the society under the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness, to become socially active influential and powerful leaders, teachers or influencers, if the mind is unwell, void of wisdom that leads to right discrimination or correct understanding that give rise to immovable unconditional peace in oneself, but it is suffering from certain mental and emotional disturbance and corruption, or having incorrect thinking and understanding arising from ignorance and egoism that leads to unrest, dissatisfaction, fear, discontentment and greed in oneself, that give rise to corrupted damaging ideas, desires, aspirations, practices, behaviors, actions and reactions, that give rise to damaging consequences unto oneself and others and the surrounding environment, under the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness, because the mind didn't look after itself properly, to be free from all that.

By understanding this, the mind will know that the observation of renunciation and dispassion is the true compassion and the greatest form of unselfishness, and it's the highest duty and responsibility of all minds, to be first looking after the over-all physical and mental well-being of oneself, before one can truly perform all kinds of duties and responsibilities towards all the others in the world of diversities, selflessly, wisely, compassionately, effortlessly and efficiently.

Renunciation and dispassion has nothing to do with being a nun or monk, living in an ashram or temple with the community of nuns or monks. As real renunciation and dispassion, or the basic mental and emotional independence, self-discipline and self-control, might not exist in many of those who became nuns or monks, living in an ashram or temple with the community of nuns or monks.

Looking after oneself is also nothing to do with self-pampering in pleasurable luxurious material, physical, mental and sensual enjoyments. Unfortunately, that is a common misunderstanding or corruption in the world of yoga.

Upon the annihilation of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness, one is a true and selfless son/daughter, parent, sibling, friend, lover, partner, member of the society, teacher, leader, influencer or inspiration to all and everyone, unconditionally, indiscriminately, selflessly and intentionlessly.

All minds that aspire to become leaders, teachers or influencers, or even before getting into any kinds of commitment, friendship, relationship, family building and have children, need to first look after their own physical and mental well-being, to have certain degrees of correct understanding, self-awareness and self-control, that give rise to certain degrees of peace and harmony in oneself, and not necessarily it has to be attaining self-realization or the complete annihilation of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness, although it would be much better if that happens.

It's very energy exhausting to be kind to the mind that is completely lost, losing the basic clarity of thinking, correct understanding, self-awareness and self-control, that blames all and everyone and everything as the cause of its suffering and disturbed unrest states of mind, where most sights, sounds, smells, tastes, sensations, memories and imaginations are extremely painful to the sensitive mind, where the mind is constantly under the state of self-protectiveness and defensiveness, where most disagreeable actions and reactions of others are being perceived as something 'disturbing', 'offensive', 'belittling', 'bullying', 'threatening' and 'hurtful' to the prideful ignorant disturbed mind, except for specific 'agreeable' treatments that it likes, and in the way that it desires, and it always needs to be in control of others to be in certain way that is desirable and agreeable to oneself, while ceaselessly longing to be receiving affection, admiration, attention, agreement, acknowledgment, recognition, praise and compliment from others.

Being compassionate towards such minds, doesn't mean that one should be empowering such mental corruptions, but allowing such minds to be aware of what is going on in themselves, and have the opportunity and initiation to come out from such suffering. There's nothing anyone can do to help, if the mind is completely unaware, no matter how. There's nothing wrong or to be guilty about, towards letting go such minds, not to waste any energy into that, and focusing on looking after oneself and others, that still have certain degrees of awareness.

If people think and believe that the highest duty and responsibility of humanity, and the highest meaning of life existence, is about something else other than the attainment of self-realization and liberation from ignorance and egoism and/or the suffering deriving from ignorance and egoism, that's their freedom of thinking, understanding, beliefs, values, practices and desires.

Inquire the truth of everything.

Generosity

Under the absence of the idea of 'I', there's no attachment or identification towards the act of generosity, or the idea of "I am being generous."

There's no expectation towards others who received one's act of generosity to be appreciative and grateful, or showing gratitude.

There's no separateness between the performer of action (The one that is being generous) and the action of generosity.

Some minds are performing the action of generosity under certain intention of 'compensation towards guilt and regret for certain damaging and hurtful behavior', or 'to be receiving acknowledgment and recognition, praise and compliment, liking and support', which is also nothing to do with the selfless intentionless act of generosity.

It's the same as any kind of selfless actions under the absence of the idea of 'I'.

Selflessness is not about unselfishness. It is beyond unselfishness.

There's no attachment or identification of, "I am unselfish," and "I am performing unselfish actions."

There's no expectation of, "Some others are benefited from my unselfishness," and "Some others should be appreciative and grateful, and showing gratitude."

There's no idea of 'I' existing to be practicing non-attachment, or non-identification, or non-expectation of, "I am not attaching and not identifying towards my selfless actions," and "I am not expecting anything from anyone for my selfless actions."

While coming from others who have received the generosity from someone, recognizing such act as a form of generosity, and showing gratitude towards such generosity, that is everyone's freedom of action and reaction.

It's only when there is still the idea of 'I' and egoism occupying the mind, then this selfless mind needs to be eradicating the idea of 'I' and egoism from itself.

Inquire the truth of everything, and be free.

The initiation towards learning and practicing yoga

If the selfless thinking mind is resting in unconditional peace, being undisturbed or undetermined by the presence and absence of all kinds of pleasant and unpleasant, agreeable and disagreeable, desirable and undesirable experiences, conditions, situations, ties and connections, relationships, interactions and affairs in one's life and in the world, or the selfless impermanent modification of the mind, as it knows what is non-attachment and non-identification, non-craving and non-aversion, non-judgment and non-expectation, or it is void of egoism, then this mind doesn't need to learn or practice yoga at all. Although there's no harm to be looking after the physical and mental health and fitness condition, to enjoy a higher quality of life, by performing certain kind of physical or mental activity, exercise or training regularly in moderation, without pushing the body and mind beyond its limitation, that helps to be maintaining up to certain degrees of good health and fitness level, that is subject to selfless impermanent changes, without egoism of attachment and identification, craving and aversion, judgment and expectation towards the selfless impermanent physical condition and the states of the mind has to be or not to be in certain way.

If the selfless thinking mind thinks and feels that itself is being disturbed, offended or hurt by something, where it is in a disturbed unpleasant discomfortable states of mind, occupying by doubt, confusion, disturbance, dissatisfaction, disappointment, hurt, grief, sorrow, fear, worry, hostility, offensiveness, defensiveness, unhappiness, meaninglessness, low self-esteem, low self-worth, pride, shame, guilt, regret, agitation, violence, anger, hatred, resentment, vengeance, jealousy, unrest, suffering, and etc, without knowing how to not attaching and not identifying towards what the mind thinks and believes is disturbing or hurting it, or towards the selfless impermanent modification of the mind, and it wants to do something to be free from such disturbed suffering states of mind, and somehow, it has the opportunity to come in contact with the teachings and practice of yoga and/or buddhism, and hence, ignited the desire to be learning and practicing yoga and/or buddhism, to see if that can help the mind to be free from the disturbed suffering states of mind.

How to incorporate eradication of egoism into the yoga and meditation practice?

It's common and nothing wrong when someone who is suffering from certain kind of physical illness, or physical injury, or physical limitation, or mental problem and blockage, or emotional disturbance, would have the interest, aspiration, desire, intention and expectation to learn and practice certain type of yoga and meditation practice with the intention, desire or expectation to be attaining certain physical and mental enhancement and benefits, or gaining certain relief and recovery from those suffering.

There is attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, intention, aspiration and expectation in this initiation to be starting learning and practicing yoga and meditation.

It's also common and nothing wrong when someone has the initiative, interest, aspiration, desire, intention and expectation to be learning the knowledge and technique of certain type of yoga and meditation practice to become a yoga and meditation teacher, to be teaching some others about how to perform certain type of yoga and meditation practice with the aspiration, desire, intention and expectation to be sharing the wonderful practice of yoga and meditation to many others, while giving positive encouragement and motivational compliment to the students emphasizing on the impermanent enhancement of the physical and mental ability and achievement as well as on the momentary side-effects or benefits of the practice, hoping that all others who are learning and practicing the yoga and meditation practice would be attaining certain physical and mental enhancement and benefits, or gaining certain relief and recovery from those suffering.

There is attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, intention, aspiration and expectation in this initiation to be learning and practicing and teaching yoga and meditation.

It's common and nothing wrong when the yoga and meditation classes, or the teachers who are teaching the yoga and meditation classes are emphasizing on the specific type of yoga and meditation practice that would bring along specific type of physical and mental enhancement or benefits, or might be giving certain relief or recovery from certain physical, mental or emotional suffering, illness, injury, problem, blockage, hurt or disturbance.

There is attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, comparison, judgment, intention, aspiration and expectation in the process of conducting yoga and meditation classes.

How to incorporate the eradication of egoism into the yoga and meditation practice or the yoga and meditation classes?

The yoga and meditation classes, and the teachers who teach the yoga and meditation classes are not emphasizing on the specific type of yoga and meditation practice of particular name and form. It's just simply a particular type of yoga and meditation technique and practice, and not emphasizing on the possibility of specific type of effects or physical and mental enhancement and benefits, as all and everyone has different physical and mental condition and limitation in different timing, that has different reaction towards the similar type of practice, where the fruit of practice might be very different among the different practitioners, and the goal of the yoga and meditation classes and the yoga and meditation practice are not about attaining or enjoying the side-effects of momentary physical and mental enhancement and benefits of the yoga and meditation practice at all. But it's going beyond or renouncing all kinds of side-effects of the yoga and meditation practice. It's about incorporating the eradication of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness into the practice, to weaken and eliminate the idea of 'I' and the passionate desires and aspirations, to be rendering the mind calm and purified, preparing the mind for self-inquiry and deep meditation, to attain self-realization.

Someone who is learning and practicing certain type of yoga and meditation practice might have the opportunity to be teaching yoga and meditation practice to some others, but can be without attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, comparison, judgment, intention or expectation towards the action and the fruit of action of learning, practicing and teaching certain type of yoga and meditation practice, allowing the action and the fruit of the action of learning, practicing and teaching being there as it is, and being what it is. Without the need of giving positive encouragement and motivational compliment to the students emphasizing on the impermanent enhancement of the physical and mental ability and achievement as well as on the momentary side-effects or benefits of the practice, which is nothing but empowering the egoism of attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, comparison, judgment and expectation in the students. And all are impermanent.

Someone who is suffering from certain kind of physical illness, or physical injury, or physical limitation, or mental problem and blockage, or emotional disturbance can be learning and practicing the yoga and meditation practice under the correct understanding and right effort, where there's no attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, comparison, judgment and expectation towards the impermanent condition of the physical body and the impermanent states of the mind, the existence of certain physical, mental or emotional suffering, the action and the fruit of action of learning and performing the yoga and meditation practice, allowing the action and the fruit of action being what it is. There's no expectation towards the yoga and meditation practice will bring certain type of physical or mental enhancement or benefits, or will bring certain relief or recovery from the existing physical, mental and emotional suffering in one's body and mind, while allowing the effects of the practice to be there, or not, and allowing impermanent changes to be there as they are, and accepting the reality in the present moment now as it is, and it is impermanent, and changing. Even if some others who are performing the same practice, in the same timing, under the same teacher, might be experiencing and reacting towards the effects of the practice differently from oneself, and it's okay, letting go all kinds of comparison, judgment and expectation.

Under such correct understanding and right effort, even if the practitioner has been performing the yoga and meditation practice diligently and regularly for many years, but the existing physical, mental or emotional suffering might still be there and worsening, or there are even more other forms of suffering arise in the body and mind, while some others might be gaining certain relief or recovery from the similar suffering from performing the similar practice, but then, the mind understands towards selflessness and impermanence, void of attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, comparison, judgment and expectation, the mind is not being determined or disturbed by the presence, or the worsening, or the continuous existence of certain suffering, but just doing one's best to be performing necessary actions, while allowing the fruit of actions being what it is, and the mind is okay under any circumstances, conditions and situations. And all are impermanent.

There's no craving towards certain pleasant, desirable and agreeable experiences, connection, interaction, condition and situation. There's no aversion towards certain unpleasant, undesirable and disagreeable experiences, connection, interaction, condition and situation. Without being determined or over-powered by the existing suffering or the disturbed states of mind. Without denying, suppressing or pushing away, but just by being aware and acknowledging, without judgment and expectation. That is what yoga and meditation practice is about. That is what silence and mindfulness is about. That is liberation.

Inquire the truth of everything.

None need more than sufficient basic needs to live a simple happy peaceful life

A simple happy peaceful life doesn't mean living under insufficiency of lacking the basic needs for life maintenance.

A simple clean and tidy living and resting space or shelter as well as enough basic clothing that protect the physical body from the impact of harsh weather, injuries, insects and wild animals in a healthy natural non-polluted surrounding environment, clean air, adequate simple nutritious food consumption that generates enough energy and nutrition for maintaining the basic function of the physical body and the thinking faculty, clean safe drinking water, basic hygiene and sanitation, certain indoor or outdoor physical and mental activities that don't require any additional equipment or gadget, basic living skills, basic correct understanding or universal conscience with basic common sense, openness, self-control, self-reliance, self-effort, self-inquiry, self-realization, contentment, and certain degrees of mental and emotional independence, are all the basic needs for maintaining a wholesome selfless impermanent life existence of the selfless physical body and the selfless thinking faculty.

There are boundless different kinds of unnecessary commercial ideas, products and activities, food productions, dining options, entertainments, fashions, accessories, gadgets, lifestyles, beliefs, values, practices, physical and mental leisure activities that require certain space, equipment or gadget, varieties of furniture, luxury accommodations, home decorations, pets decorations, toys, commercialized sports activities related commercial products, theme parks related commercial products, tourism related commercial products, celebration days, cultural, spiritual and religious events with their respective rituals or objects for different occasions, health and fitness products, beauty cosmetics products, skin care/body care/facial care/hair care products, spiritual healing related products, health food products, health care products, slimming products, anti-aging products, luxurious pleasurable material and sensual enjoyment of the senses for the body and mind, tourism holiday activities, and etc, where all these ideas, products and activities beyond basic needs for life maintenance are deriving from the intention of empowering wealth generation and accumulation through business investments, property investments, productions, tourism, commercialism and capitalism, under the creativity of the creative minds utilizing the many different technologies and higher technologies designing for catering the 'inspired' and 'empowered' desires and ambitions beyond basic needs for life maintenance of the ever restless discontented ambitious passionate minds under the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness.

The existence of all these unnecessary ideas, products and activities are exploiting the nature and natural resources to the maximum to the point of destruction, while generating lots of unnecessary inevitable rubbish or pollution into the world, and give rise to so much exploitation and corruption that lead to many unnecessary damages and suffering in the world under such greedy ambitious inspirational aspirations and desires of the restless passionate egoistic minds functioning under the influence of ignorance and egoism.

The buddhas and gurus foreseen all kinds of alarming damaging effects in the world deriving from such ignorance, egoism, restlessness, discontentment, dissatisfaction, greed, desires, aspirations, ambitions, success, wealth, status, indulgence, possessiveness and pride, that give rise to so much unnecessary damages to the natural environment, unrest, separateness, discrimination, selfishness, exploitation, corruption, unequal basic needs availability and distribution, unbalanced between abundance and insufficiency, desperation, suffering, hunger, violence and war in the world, and hence, the existence of the basic and yet essential teachings and advice of living a life of simplicity and contentment, dispassion and renunciation.

None need more than sufficient basic needs for life maintenance to be living a simple happy peaceful life in this world.

None need the additional ongoing stimulation of sights, sounds, smells, tastes, sensations, imaginations, visualizations, feelings, and etc, to be pleasing the ever discontented boundless passionate desires, to live a healthy happy life, physically, mentally and emotionally.

There will be minds that disagree with this and don't like to hear this, while thinking and believing that "There's nothing wrong or damaging to be enjoying whatever that is available to us, as long as it's not hurting oneself. Life is too dull and boring without some pleasurable entertainments and enjoyments. The global and local economy depends solely on the boundless desires and aspirations of consumerism inspired and empowered by all these business capital investments, property investments, productions, tourism, commercialism and capitalism, or else, the economy will collapse, there will be no jobs, and everyone will be suffering. But, at least those who have the opportunity and motivation and are capable of making a success out of all these to be generating and accumulating wealth won't be suffering so much. Life still goes on for those who achieved such success and wealth regardless of many others who are being exploited and living in poverty because they don't have the credibility or motivation to achieve success to get out of such desperate situation that exists under exploitation by those who are smart and credible, and those who are smart and successful deserved all kinds of abundance, enjoyments and comforts because it's their own ability, effort and aspiration. There's nothing wrong with smart people who work smart accumulating wealth and enjoying life to the maximum by exploiting the nature and the non-smart people who have to work hard and still not making enough for living. Be smart. Be inspired, and be empowered to be smart and achieve limitless success and wealth."

That's right. Keep inquiring towards what's wrong with this thinking or understanding, for the minds that think and believe that there's nothing bad or damaging with a little bit of extra desires, ambitions, success and enjoyments in life. Unfortunately, very few minds would see what is the 'problem' with this 'system' of a new modern society of 'empowerment towards achieving success and wealth and pleasurable enjoyment' as well as no limit of 'higher success, higher wealth and higher pleasurable enjoyment'.

That's why by being inspired and empowered to be having higher education, higher intelligence, motivation, ambition and the accumulation of knowledge, achievement, success and wealth, doesn't guarantee that the mind will have correct understanding, or is free from the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness.

It's the freedom of all and everyone for their understanding and desire and don't desire, as well as dealing with the consequences of the understanding and the desire and don't desire.

When the climate eventually collapsed, followed by the food production collapsed, where there's very little livable condition left on earth, when hunger, desperation, violence and wars are everywhere, then we will see if the minds still think and believe that they and their next generations won't be affected by the consequences of their 'nothing wrong' greedy boundless desires and aspirations.

Inquire towards the truth of everything.

Love without attachment and possessiveness

"How can a person being engaged in any kind of relationship with someone, and appreciates and loves that person sincerely, but then at the same time, one is not being determined by the absence and presence of agreeable and disagreeable, desirable and undesirable, pleasant and unpleasant interactions and events that occur in any form of human relationship, regardless of whether it's relationship with family, friends and lover or spouse?"

The passionate minds that are being conditioned by worldly egoistic thinking, belief, values and practice, would have great difficulty in understanding towards "One can love and appreciate some others in different type of relationship in life very much, but won't be feeling "losing/missing someone or something that oneself loves and appreciates very much" upon the absence of that person and/or the relationship."

The passionate minds think and believe that, all kinds of love, can only exist along with attachment and possessiveness/the sense of belonging, where the amount of love is being determined or measured by the degrees of attachment and possessiveness in any kind of relationship.

The minds that truly understand towards the truth of selflessness and impermanence in all and everything, would understand that there's nothing or none belonged to anything or anyone.

One knows how to love all and everyone without attachment and possessiveness, where one doesn't own any kind of existing relationship as well as the person(s) in the relationship with oneself.

Without attachment and possessiveness towards the relationship and the person(s) in the relationship with oneself, it doesn't mean that one doesn't care about or doesn't take the relationship and the person(s) in the relationship with oneself seriously.

One appreciates all the different kind of human relationships existing in the present moment now, as they are, not necessarily all desirable and agreeable, as well as loves the person(s) in the relationship with oneself unconditionally as it is, without the idea of "You are my family," or "You are my friend,", or "You are my lover/spouse," or "You belonged to me," or "You are mine," or "This is my family/my friend/my lover/my spouse/my relationship." And hence, one doesn't loose anything and/or anyone, upon the absence of the relationship and/or the person(s) in the different type of relationship with oneself, upon impermanent changes that are not necessarily being the way that how everyone would like it to be. Upon the realization of selflessness, there's no 'I' being there to be claiming, "I am losing something or someone," or "I don't want to loose something or someone that is upmost important to me," as well as, there's nothing or none to loose, as nothing/none belonged to anyone.

"Loving others unconditionally, as they are" doesn't mean that one should be blindly agreeing with everything and saying "yes" to everything, or one wouldn't be having any dislike or disagreement towards any kind of ignorant thinking and behavior, or shouldn't be saying "no" to any kind of demands, or allowing oneself to be mistreated or abused by other people's ignorant hurtful behavior repeatedly, encouraging and empowering such ignorance. However, one is not being determined by the likes and dislikes, agreements and disagreements, and pleasant or unpleasant affairs and events that occur in any kind of relationship. One can choose to move away from such ignorance, if necessarily, if possible, not to be encouraging and empowering such ignorance.

The passionate minds would react and feel disappointed and dissatisfied, upon one's desires/demands/cravings are not being gratified, as well as would react and feel disappointed, confused and hurt, if someone in any kind of relationship with oneself telling oneself about, "There's nothing to loose in any kind of relationship with anything and anyone," or "You are free to love me, or not, and you are free to stay or leave as you wish," or "I love you as you are, even if you don't love me and/or are not in a relationship with me," as they would interpret that as "You don't love me. You don't appreciate me or our relationship. I mean nothing to you. I am not important to you. Our relationship doesn't mean anything to you," not understanding that, that is unconditional non-possessive type of love.

The minds that feel disappointed and hurt by someone in any kind of relationship because one's desires/demands/cravings are not being gratified by those in any form of relationship with oneself, would react in the way that would hurt oneself and those in certain type of relationship with oneself, out of disappointment, resentment, or rebelliousness. Such minds don't even love themselves, not to say, they don't really love those whom they think they love very much, as they would do things that would hurt anyone, including themselves, upon not getting what they like and want, and/or are getting what they don't like and don't want. They only love their desires of what they like and want.

The minds that know how to love themselves and others unconditionally won't do anything that would hurt oneself and/or others deliberately, out of disappointment, resentment, or rebelliousness, upon the non-gratification of their desires or demands. Such as when the parents reject their children's demands for something, the children might react and behave in the way that would hurt themselves and their parents deliberately, out of disappointment, resentment and rebelliousness. Or, one would react and behave in the way that hurt oneself and the partner/spouse intentionally, out of disappointment, resentment and rebelliousness, upon one's demands towards the partner/spouse and the relationship are not being gratified.

Most minds don't appreciate such unconditional non-possessive type of love, instead, they would rather be chasing after passionate possessive type of love, where there is intense attachment, identification, possessiveness, clinging and craving towards one another, to receive attention, love, care, support, comfort, encouragement, companionship, interaction, acknowledgement, agreement, appreciation, praise and compliment from one another, to boost the sense of self-esteem, goodness, happiness, accomplishment, positiveness and meaningfulness.

The minds that realized selflessness and impermanence transcend all these names and forms, not being determined by all these names and forms to be 'I', transcending the sense of self-esteem, goodness, happiness, accomplishment, positiveness and meaningfulness, where they don't need to feel confident, good, happy, accomplished, positive or meaningful at all, not to say, to be building and boosting the sense of self-esteem, goodness, happiness, accomplishment, positiveness and meaningfulness out of all kinds of selfless impermanent names and forms, being determined and empowered by passionate egoistic attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, comparison, judgment and expectation.

Many minds would think and believe that, "Good friends, or friends, are those who regularly meet up with one another, visit each other, spend lots of time together and doing something together, or keeping in touch, talking to and sharing with each other all the time. Otherwise, they are not good friends, or they are not my friends at all." These minds cannot understand that, "True friends are not necessarily have to be regularly meeting up with one another, visiting each other, spending lots of time together and doing something together, or keeping in touch, talking to and sharing with each other." They cannot comprehend that, "friends" are those who will always be a friend even after many years not meeting up with one another, not visiting each other, not spending lots of time together and not doing something together, or not keeping in touch, not talking to and not sharing with each other, either with or without any reasons.

Most passionate egoistic minds have no such understanding, and they would feel disappointed, unhappy or lonely, if they think they don't have any friends to interact, socialize, share and play with, then know that it's due to the attachment and possessiveness towards 'friends' and 'friendship', as well as the craving towards the presence of friends with the interactions and activities, and the aversion towards the absence of friends and the interactions and activities, are not being gratified.

To truly understand this dispassionate unconditional non-possessive type of love, one must perform self-inquiry towards what are "selflessness in all and everything" and "attachment and possessiveness", as well as what is "love without attachment and possessiveness" or "dispassionate unconditional love," to attain direct realization towards all these terms.

"Love without attachment and possessiveness" is nothing to do with the passionate engagement in multiple intimate love affairs or relationships with many different people/lovers/partners on different timing or at the same time, while thinking and believing that that's what unconditional love and care towards all and everyone is about.

Non-attachment and non-possessiveness is nothing to do with non-commitment, or non-seriousness, or non-appreciative, or irresponsibility towards any kind of human relationship. One can be seriously and genuinely engaging in as well as being responsible and appreciative towards all kind of human relationship, as well as being contented with having one single committed intimate love affair or relationship with someone, but without any attachment or the sense of possessiveness, respecting all kind of impermanent changes as they are.

However, unconditional love that is void of attachment and possessiveness is highly being misused by the passionate minds, including some yoga practitioners or yoga teachers, as the 'spiritual' excuse to justify one's irresponsibility towards one's existing relationship with family, friends or lover/spouse/partner, or to justify one's greedy discontented lustful desire to be enjoying or engaging in "many different intimate love affair/relationship with different people at different timing," or "multiple committed/uncommitted intimate love affairs/relationships with different lovers/partners at the same time," or "any kind of sexual misconduct," using the excuse of 'love sharing' or 'spiritual healing' to be engaging in intimate love/sexual affair/relationship with the disturbed minds that are longing to be comforted, loved or healed by some others, while thinking and believing and propagating that, "unconditional love without attachment and possessiveness" means "I have so much love and care (lust) that needed to share with as many people as possible, without being limited by any commitment or responsibility," as well as, using the excuse of "unconditional love without attachment and commitment" to be expecting one's lover/spouse shouldn't be disturbed or hurt by one's greedy lustful desire that needed to be shared with many other different lovers/partners, thinking and believing that it's what unconditional love is about, but not really. That's their freedom of thinking and behavior, however, it's completely nothing to do with yoga.

One can be loving one's lover/spouse unconditionally, but it doesn't mean that one should be encouraging or empowering such ignorant thinking and behavior of the lover/spouse that is over-powered by greedy lustful desires, where one can let go such "relationship" without any disappointment or resentment, loving the lover/spouse as he/she is, being ignorant and behaving ignorantly, thinking and believing that he/she loves his/her lover/partner/spouse very much, but he/she would do things that hurt those whom they think they love very much out of greed, discontentment and lustful desires, or out of disappointment, dissatisfaction, resentment or rebelliousness, due to ungratified desires. One doesn't need to stay in such relationship, but more importantly, one is not being determined or bothered by such ignorance and ignorant behavior of the lover/partner/spouse that is being ignorant towards his/her own ignorance and ignorant behavior. It's only due to the presence of attachment and possessiveness as well as the desire of craving and aversion, most people can't let go and would feel disappointed, hurt and disturbed for being in any relationship with anyone that is under the influence of ignorance with the presence of ignorant behavior, but then oneself also reacting and behaving in the way that would be hurting oneself and those in the relationship with oneself, intentionally, out of resentment and rebelliousness.

"You hurt me, I'll hurt you back" is not love at all.

Some people might not be doing anything hurtful directly to the lover/partner/spouse, refuse to communicate and have better understanding among one another, but then would go behind their back saying and doing many things that would hurt them. That is more evil and hurtful than those who express their disagreement directly to their lover/partner/spouse to communicate about any issues or misunderstanding. However, it seems to be part of certain cultural practice to not express any disagreement directly with the person involved, but to go behind people's back to complain, bitching and hurt the person, to seek support and agreement from other people towards one's disagreement towards the lover/partner/spouse, to relieve one's dissatisfaction and unhappiness. By complaining and bitching about one's lover/partner/spouse whom oneself dislikes and hates so much, with or without the intention of getting other people's support and agreement towards oneself, so that other people will also dislike and hating one's lover/partner/spouse for something that oneself dislikes and disagrees with, while thinking that oneself is a 'victim' of the bad behavior of one's lover/partner/spouse, it only shows that oneself doesn't love the lover/partner/spouse at all.

Yoga practitioners need to stay away from such ignorant thinking, belief, values and practice, while not encouraging or empowering such ignorance.

Many yoga teachers might think and believe that they are doing the right thing or the compassionate action to be 'helping' and 'comforting' other people's unhappy mind by being a sympathetic/empathetic listener and supporter to other people who need to be complaining about what they think and believe is their relationship problem and unhappiness, not being aware of that is actually empowering the ignorance in such minds. These minds themselves don't really love themselves, not to say, they don't love their lover/partner/spouse at all, but they only love their selfish desire and expectation towards their lover/partner/spouse and their love relationship to be in certain way, and out of one's dissatisfaction and disappointment, when they don't get what they like and want, and are getting what they don't like and don't want, upon the lover/partner/spouse and the relationship is not being the way that they expect and desire it to be, they felt 'disappointed', 'unhappy' and 'hurt', and need to be complaining to other people about all kinds of bad and terrible things about their lover/partner/spouse, while thinking and believing that they love their lover/partner/spouse very much, but they are being 'disappointed', 'disturbed' and 'hurt' by their lover/partner/spouse who is bad and terrible, "Oh, I love him/her so much, but he/she is so bad and terrible. I am a victim of his/her bad and terrible behavior, but I can't, and I don't want to let go this relationship because I love him/her so much. I feel so hurt and unhappy because of this bad relationship, and I need sympathy, empathy, comfort and support from other people, acknowledging that my hurt and my unhappiness is due to my lover/partner/spouse is so bad and terrible."

The minds that understand, if one truly loves someone, there's no hurt or disappointment arising in oneself regardless of all kinds of undesirable and disagreeable interactions and happenings in the relationship, and there won't be such 'need' to be complaining to other people, to be seeking sympathy, empathy, comfort and support from some others to justify about "I am loving, good and right, while he/she is unloving, bad and wrong." One can choose to remain in the relationship that is not all desirable and agreeable, or let go any relationship that involved ignorant and hurtful behavior that keep hurting oneself and those in any kind of relationship with oneself out of ignorance, without disappointment or resentment.

If yoga teachers truly want to help the disturbed suffering minds that are under the influence of ignorance to be free from all kinds of disappointment, disturb, hurt and unhappiness due to ignorance, it's not by comforting and supporting their ignorant thinking or incorrect understanding, to be encouraging and empowering their ignorance, but it's guiding and allowing them to see the ignorance in themselves that give rise to such disappointment, disturb, hurt and unhappiness. Even though it's an unpleasant process, and most minds don't like such confrontation to be seeing and acknowledging the ignorance in themselves as well as all kinds of incorrect thinking and understanding that hurt themselves and those whom they think they love very much, but that's liberation for oneself and those in any kind of relationship with oneself.

Sincere yoga practitioners who really want to practice yoga and realize yoga, need to have the basic wisdom to inquire towards the truth of everything, and not being conditioned by any kind of passionate egoistic thinking, belief, values and practice in the world of ignorance and egoism, as well as not being 'deluded' by any kind of impure understanding and intention that exist in the world of yoga.

Seclusion and solitude is highly important for self-inquiry and self-realization

Renunciation must be observed along with seclusion and solitude, especially in this era, of the end of dhamma, where ignorant passionate egoistic thinking and behavior are predominant in everywhere.

Some yoga practitioners might think that renunciation is about renouncing or retreating from their worldly life, not living and mingling among the worldly community, but then, they are attaching towards the yoga family or community, engaging in many kinds of yoga activity regularly interacting with many others who are like-minded, to be accompanying, supporting and motivating one another on the path of yoga, physically, mentally and emotionally, however, after spending some time living a life of 'renunciation from the worldly community', the mind is still not free from the worldly passionate egoistic thinking and behavior pattern.

This is because ignorance and egoism exists even in the yoga community, where many yoga activities, yoga events, yoga classes, yoga courses, yoga retreats, yoga schools, yoga ashrams, yoga organizations and yoga associations are not free from the influence of ignorance and egoism, that empowers passion, attachment, identification and desires of craving and aversion, instead of developing dispassion and desirelessness. Having similar interest and being like-minded, as well as passionately engaging in yoga activities regularly, doesn't mean that the minds are free from ignorance and egoism. By continuously mingling among and interacting with the yoga community that is not free from the passionate egoistic thinking and behavior pattern under the influence of ignorance and egoism, it couldn't serve the purpose of renunciation effectively, because the mind doesn't get the chance to move away from the worldly passionate egoistic thinking and behavior pattern, continuously thinking and behaving in such way unwittingly, while mingling among and interacting with the yoga community and learning and practicing yoga that is not about the annihilation of ignorance and egoism, but empowers passionate egoistic attachment, identification, desire, comparison, judgment, intention, expectation, as well as mental and emotional dependence.

The essence of renunciation, is for the mind to stay away from such passionate egoistic influences completely for a prolonged period of time, that serves the purpose of thinning out the attachment and identification towards the worldly passionate egoistic thinking, belief, values and practice, which allowing the mind be able to develop the basic foundation of dispassion and right discrimination, as well as mental and emotional independence, for inquiring towards all kinds of worldly passionate egoistic thinking and behavior, actions and reactions, and their consequences.

Unless the mind has already developed or be endowed with a strong foundation of non-attachment, non-identification, dispassion and correct understanding (right discrimination), if not, it's highly important for the sincere yoga practitioners who have intense yearning for liberation to be observing seclusion and solitude during the practice of renunciation, not just renouncing from the worldly affairs and the worldly community that are mostly under the influence of passionate worldly egoistic thinking and behavior pattern, but also retreating from the world of yoga community and yoga activities that are not necessarily be free from the influence of worldly passionate egoistic thinking and behavior pattern.

Some minds believe that they only need to renounce the world mentally, while physically mingling among the worldly passionate egoistic minds, engaging in passionate egoistic interactive activities and affairs, however, there are not many minds have such strong foundation of non-attachment, dispassion and right discrimination, as well as mental and emotional independence, to be living and mingling among the passionate egoistic minds, and not being influenced by the passionate egoistic way of thinking and behavior.

There will be some non-understanding reaction and even criticism and condemn coming from family and friends, as well as some others in the yoga community when the mind renounces not only the worldly community, but also the yoga community, however, it only shows that these minds are very much thinking, behaving, acting and reacting under the influence of passionate egoistic thinking and behavior pattern. Some minds will be puzzled, disappointed, and even offended, when a mind stops engaging in any family and friends social cultural activities, as well as not participating in or associating with any yoga organizations, associations, gatherings, activities and events. There's neither good nor bad, neither right nor wrong, in all these egoistic reactions towards the mind that observes renunciation, seclusion and solitude. All minds take their own time to evolve, at their own cause and pace.

Inquire towards the truth of everything, including the different teachings and practice of yoga deriving from the world of yoga, as well as all the teachings here.

It's everyone's freedom whether they want to observe seclusion and solitude, or not, that allows the mind to develop the foundation of dispassion and right discrimination, and mental and emotional independence, effectively. However, such intense practice might not be suitable for all and everyone.

After developing a strong foundation of non-attachment, dispassion and right discrimination, one can live and mingle freely among the passionate egoistic minds, and not being influenced by them at all, while performing selfless service to disseminate the teachings that leads other minds onto the path of self-inquiry and self-realization, to be free from ignorance.
