Go beyond the accumulated knowledge in the mind or what the mind thinks it knows

The mind only knows what it knows, or the accumulated knowledge and information that it has been coming in contact with, learning, studying, researching, and accumulating as well as memorizing.

The mind doesn't know what it doesn't know (yet).

The teachings and practice of yoga and/or buddhism is not a belief.

The truth of selflessness and impermanence in all kinds of names and forms, regardless of whether living organisms or non-living objects, as well as the nature's law of cause and effect, is not a belief.

Science, or "what things are, as they are", is not a belief.

If a mind thinks and believes, and says, "I believe that the universe is like this, or the human minds are like that, based on my conclusion coming from my own dedicated research on top of studying other people's research for many years," while denying certain knowledge/information/understanding that is different from its own understanding/conclusion based on its own accumulated knowledge and some others' accumulated knowledge, then it indicates that this mind only knows what it knows. It shows that this mind is still functioning under the veil of ignorance and egoism, even if this mind is the most knowledgeable mind among all minds in this world.

It doesn't mean that the knowledge/information or the understanding of this mind is wrong or incorrect, however, it is not the absolute knowledge or complete understanding. It's merely the partial knowledge/information/understanding that would lead the mind towards the absolute knowledge or complete understanding, provided if this mind knows how to go beyond or unattached towards what it thinks it knows, of all its accumulated knowledge/information and the current understanding/conclusion.

Such as there is nothing wrong and it's correct about "You are what you eat", "Develop positive thinking to overcome negative thinking", "Do good, don't do bad", "Treat others the way that yourself want to be treated by others", "Love yourself", "Be grateful and thankful", "The state of mind is being influenced by the energy field that is influenced by food consumption, substances or drugs, hormones, all kinds of positions and activities, the surrounding environment, or all kinds of physical/mental/emotional/sensory inputs and activities", and/or "I am That," however, that is not the absolute knowledge or complete understanding, or the goal of the teachings and practice. That's why there are many different types of initial practice and observation that served the purpose to render the state of mind in certain way, which is also impermanent, and it's not the goal of the teachings and practice, but it can prepare and lead the mind towards some other forms of practice for transcending all that.

Such as it's correct about "All minds are functioning under the veil of ignorance, and all are ignorant," but it's not complete. The veil of ignorance can be eliminated via self-effort and through persistence and determination. It is not easy, but it is absolutely possible to be free from ignorance.

Such as it's correct about "The behavior/action/reaction is being conditioned/influenced by the mind behavior pattern," but it's not complete. The mind behavior pattern is also limited and conditional, where it can be modified or changed. That's why there are many different types of practice that are available for initiate the process to modify or change the conditional mind behavior pattern.

Such as it's correct about "The past generated cause and effect cannot be undone," but it's not complete. How the mind acts and reacts in this present moment now towards the past generated cause and effect that cannot be undone, can determine the fresh cause and effect being generated in the present moment.

Such as it's correct about "There is no 'I' existing in the selfless body and mind to be in control of its own selfless and impermanent function and existence," but it's not complete. As long as the selfless body and mind is still existing and functioning under the selfless support of the selfless energy and elements in this present moment now, it can develop willpower and self-control, or non-attachment and correct understanding, it can choose what type of 'minds'/'activities'/'connections' that it wants or doesn't want to get involve with, and it can choose to perform or not performing certain actions that can influence the selfless impermanent changes or the surrounding environment in certain way, in the present moment now, while respecting or allowing the fruit of its action or inaction to be what it is.

The selfless mind can choose and perform action to free itself from ignorance, or not, while allowing the fruit of choices/actions to be what it is. The mind can choose whether it wants to be kind or unkind. The mind can choose whether it wants to realize unconditional peace, or not. The mind can choose to let go, or not. The mind can choose whether to believe or disbelieve in something or anything. The mind can choose to be happy or unhappy, regardless of whether it is experiencing something painful or difficult, or not. There are autonomous functions/activities/actions/reactions in the selfless bodily system to maintain life existence, and there are non-autonomous freewill by choice activities/choices/actions/reactions/desires coming from the selfless thinking and acting mind, either under the presence of ignorance or under the absence of ignorance.

Knowing that this is poison, the mind can choose whether to consume the poison, or not. If knowing that this action will inflict damage or suffering unto oneself and others, and the mind still wants to do it, that is ignorance, that is nothing to do with selflessness (there is no 'I' existing in all kinds of names and forms). All are selfless. The only difference is whether the selfless mind is functioning under the influence of ignorance and its by-products, or not.

If the mind truly understands, it won't think and believe in such way, or debate and argue to justify and prove that "this is right and that is wrong" or "I am right and you are wrong".

The mind that understands "I only know what I know, and what I don't know, I don't know," is not free yet, but at least, it is on the way towards transcending the idea of 'I' and what it thinks it knows and doesn't know (yet).

The mind that thinks and believes, "I know a lot. I know more than the others. My knowledge/research/understanding is correct or more accurate than some others' knowledge/research/understanding that is different from mine," and justify, "My knowledge/research/understanding is correct/true, and other knowledge/research/understanding that is different from mine is incorrect/false," is currently stuck in its own thinking and accumulated knowledge/research and partial incomplete understanding.

And there is neither right nor wrong, and it's neither good nor bad, about all that. It's the freedom of thinking and understanding of all and everyone.

"All are selfless and impermanent. All are limited and conditional," is both restricting as well as liberating.

A mind that was very violent and hurtful can also change and become less violent and less hurtful, or even, non-violent and non-hurtful, or vice versa, if it (really) wants to change.

That's why the highly importance of self-inquiry towards "Who am I?", or more specifically, "What is the 'I' that the thinking in the selfless thinking faculty of the selfless human body that thinks/believes/acknowledges/identifies as I, or me, or my independent and infinite individual self existence?"

That's why the highly importance of Self-realization, of knowing Thyself, or more specifically, knowing what is the restless modification of the selfless impermanent perceptive cognitive intellectual emotional thinking and acting mind? or what is ceaseless births and deaths, or what is the ego and egoism? or what is ignorance and suffering? or what is Selflessness and Impermanence? or what is 'That'? or what is transcending time, space, and causation? or what is transcending the modification of the mind/the state of mind/restlessness/suffering or all kinds of thought activities/feelings/emotions/ideas/beliefs/values/desires/duality/likes and dislikes/agreements and disagreements? or what are all those influential and conditional teachings/beliefs/ideas/philosophies/knowledge/values/practices/inspirations/aspirations coming from all and everyone and everywhere?

That's why the highly importance of open mind, non-grasping, self-effort, self-reliance, dispassion, renunciation, solitude, seclusion, the observation of Mauna, desirelessness, mental and emotional independence, mind purification process, regular persistent concentration and meditation practice, turning the outgoing tendency of the mind inward for self-introspection, sharpening and purifying the intellectual reasoning power not to be influenced by worldly egoistic ideas/beliefs/values/practices/desires, intense yearning towards liberation, and thinning-out/starving/eliminating the idea of 'I' and egoism, a.k.a. activate the practice of non-attachment, non-identification, non-craving, non-aversion, non-comparison, non-judgment, and non-expectation, that prepare the mind to perform inquiry towards all and everything, including all kinds of 'scientific' research, all kinds of ideas/beliefs/philosophies/teachings/values/practices/desires/inspirations/aspirations, and all the teachings of yoga and/or buddhism from anyone and everyone, or from anywhere and everywhere.

Knowledge and intelligence and wisdom are irrelevant to one another

The mind doesn't need to be highly intelligent in order to be accumulating and memorizing knowledge or information about this and that.

Being highly intelligent doesn't necessarily means that the mind is wise, devoid of ignorance, or is peaceful, devoid of suffering.

Being more intelligent than the other minds doesn't necessarily means that the mind must be more knowledgeable than the other minds that are less intelligent than this mind, and vice versa.

Although the mind can be highly intelligent as well as has been accumulating and memorizing vast knowledge or information about this and that.

The amount of accumulated knowledge in the mind as well as the different degrees of intelligence doesn't determine that whether the mind is wise/devoid of ignorance, or not, or whether the mind is peaceful/devoid of suffering, or not.

The mind that is functioning under the influence of ignorance, the idea of 'I', egoism, impurities, and restlessness, that is devoid of wisdom and peace, might be utilizing the accumulated knowledge or information about this and that, under the presence of certain degrees of intelligence, specific talent, and specific skill, to be generating certain impure thoughts, ideas, desires, and aspirations, that externalized and materialized into certain damaging destructive behaviors, actions, and reactions, and the consequences of all that, into the world, unto oneself and/or others and the surrounding environment, either wittingly or unwittingly.

Most minds growing up being conditioned by the worldly passionate egoistic belief, values, and practice about all and everyone need to be developing, achieving, possessing, and accumulating certain qualities of names and forms that all and everyone would agree with and feel proud of, as well as devoid of certain qualities of names and forms that all and everyone would disagree with and feel ashamed of, in order to attain acknowledgement, recognition, acceptance, agreement, validation, respect, and glorification not just from oneself, but especially from others or the world, in order to feel good, righteous, virtuous, meritorious, positive, confident, deserving, proud, happy, joyful, successful, accomplished, or meaningful about oneself and life existence. That is everyone's freedom of thinking and belief.

The minds that are free from such ignorance and egoism, there is no need to be acknowledged and be proud of towards anything.

The mind that doesn't need to be receiving acknowledgement, recognition, acceptance, agreement, validation, respect, or glorification from oneself and others or the world, that doesn't need to be proud of by oneself and others towards something that most minds think and believe and recognize as pride deserving, and that doesn't need to be receiving understanding, sympathy, and empathy towards something that most minds think and believe and recognize as sympathy and empathy deserving, is a free mind.

The mind that can be by oneself in silence/solitude/seclusion for a prolonged period of time without any family/friends/social contacts, communications, activities, and interactions, for at least 5 years or more, and without the sense of loneliness, meaninglessness, joylessness, left-out, failure, shame, badness, negativeness, or wrongfulness, is a free mind.

The mind that is not being determined or disturbed by the mind perception of names and forms, of the presence and absence of certain pleasant and unpleasant/desirable and undesirable/agreeable and disagreeable sights, sounds, smells, tastes, sensations, thoughts, feelings, emotions, experiences, family ties, connections, relationships, interactions, affairs, conditions, and situations, is a free mind.

The mind that doesn't need to feel good, righteous, virtuous, meritorious, positive, confident, deserving, proud, happy, joyful, successful, accomplished, or meaningful about oneself and/or life existence, that is resting in unconditional peace as it is, is a free mind.

Such mind can be busy doing something or not doing anything, and still be peaceful as it is, regardless of all kinds of selfless impermanent changes in the selfless limited and conditional existence and function of the body and mind, regardless of the evitable condition and situation in the world that is mostly the consequences of the actions generated by the many minds functioning under the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities, and restlessness (suffering/devoid of peace), and regardless of the inevitable process of decay and disintegration in all kinds of names and forms that is ceaselessly happening under the truth of selflessness and impermanence.

It's okay if the mind is not highly intelligent, or knowledgeable. It's also okay if the mind is not wise and not peaceful, in this present moment now. More importantly is that, the mind is not being over-powered by the impermanent condition and state of the mind to be hurting oneself and/or others, and without attachment, identification, craving, aversion, comparison, judgment, or expectation towards all that, while having the understanding that, even this will change, and pass away.

More importantly, one must inquire towards the truth of all the existing knowledge or information about this and that in the mind, coming from from anyone and anywhere, including all the teachings of yoga and/or buddhism, coming from any yoga teachers, or Gurus, or yogis.

Inquire the truth of everything.

Inquire toward the selfless function of memory

The selfless function of memory is neither good nor bad. It exists as an essential selfless function being part of the entire complex function of a selfless perceptive cognitive intellectual emotional thinking and acting mind for it to be what it is, being part of the essential selfless function of the selfless physical body, to be perceiving, processing and experiencing a selfless impermanent worldly life existence that is limited by time, space and causation.

If without the essential function of memory and memory storage being part of the selfless function of the perceptive cognitive intellectual emotional thinking and acting faculty, then what is the function of thinking and acting? What is the mind perception of a worldly life existence? What is 'I' and 'mine'? What are ties and relationships? What is worldly personal and group identity? What is intellectual reasoning and cognitive understanding? What is learning? What is knowledge and skill? What is likes and dislikes, agreements and disagreements? What is belief/disbelief and values? What is desire and greed? What is goodness and badness, righteousness and wrongfulness, happiness and unhappiness, or meaningfulness and meaninglessness? What is enjoyment or suffering? What is separateness and loneliness? What is craving and aversion? What is self-esteem and self-worth? What is success and failure? What is pride? What is superiority and inferiority? What is humiliation? What is hurtful or traumatic experience? What is yoga practice and practicing yoga? And etc.

It's like the essential 'SAVE' and 'OPEN FILE' function of the memory storage of the CPU of a computer, regardless of whether the basic essential programming for the operating system and all kinds of data and information are being saved in the internal built in memory storage or the external memory storage. The 'OPEN FILE' function to recall or playback saved data or information, is similar to the function of remembrance of the selfless thinking and acting faculty for it to be functioning 'normally'.

The selfless thinking and acting faculty cannot function (properly or normally) as what it is, if without the essential selfless function of memory, where the selfless function of the cognition and the intellect are useless. The selfless thinking faculty doesn't remember or recall anything that it perceives, or any thought of any name and form that is arising, changing and passing away upon the modification of the mind, in order to be processing whatever it perceives that is reflected in the form of a continuous stream of thought after thought, through the selfless function of the intellect and cognition, to be reasoning, to be understanding, to be learning anything, or to be developing any skill, to be remembering all and everything that the selfless perceptive thinking and acting faculty perceived and processed, where all perceived names and forms are being saved autonomously in the memory storage, either consciously, half-consciously, or unconsciously.

There might still be the selfless function of the perception being functioning as what it is, perceiving all kinds of names and forms through the selfless senses via the selfless sense organs, even if under the absence of the function of memory, or cognition, or intellect, to be remembering, knowing, reasoning, learning and understanding anything, even if the memory storage is there keeping all kinds of memories or knowledge and understanding, however, if without the function of memory, the cognition (knowledge and understanding) or the intellect (reasoning) would be useless, as the reasoning are based on the existing knowledge and understanding that is being stored in the memory storage.

Just as a video camera can still be displaying the captured images on the screen if there's enough battery for it to be operating as what it is, capturing images and reflecting them upon the screen, but it cannot record anything to become video clips for playback, if without a valid and vacant memory card or storage. Even the basic essential programming of specific operating system that is enabling the video camera to be operating in certain way also needed to be stored somewhere in the memory storage. And if there is memory space to be recording the images into video clips, but if there's absence or malfunctioning of the playback function, the recorded video clips cannot be displayed, which is similar to the function of remembrance, where the selfless thinking and acting faculty cannot recall or remember certain or all memories that are stored in the memory storage, if there's deficiency or malfunctioning of the function of remembrance.

The selfless physical body can still be operating autonomously, under the support of the selfless elements and energy that is available up to certain extend before it's completely depleted, even if all the different functions of the modification of the mind are non-functioning, just as in the deep sleep state, where the thought process of thinking, reasoning, understanding, desiring and acting is absent. That's why the entire world will be so peaceful, if all minds went into deep sleep state, or are absent, even just for a few moments.

Under the function of the memory, the selfless thinking faculty could recall what it can recall from the memory storage, of what it has been perceiving through the senses and processing through the intellect and cognition, of certain conscious, half-conscious or unconscious mind inputs and thought process, upon waking up from deep sleep state or unconsciousness, remembering time and space, remembering some, or most, or all of its ties and relationships, personal and group identities, duties and responsibilities, appointments and plannings, accomplishments and non-accomplishments, desirable and undesirable experiences or events, different names and forms, experiences, interactions, learning, skills and knowledge, likes and dislikes, desires and don't desires, and hence, it can be functioning as what it is, continuing its everyday life routine under certain familiar built up habits, performing its many different activities, duties and responsibilities under different identities, ties or relationships, learning new knowledge and skill, exploring new experiences, even if the function of memory is not highly efficient, where it might not be able to remember all and everything exactly as what it was. And all these traits, ties, relationships, identities, duties, responsibilities, interactions, habits, routines, activities, thinking, reasoning, understanding, learning, desires or actions of a selfless impermanent worldly life existence would not be possible, if the function of memory is completely absent or non-available since the beginning of conception.

There are different types and degrees of memory deficiency or malfunctioning.

Someone who might not remember what it had perceived and experienced in the last few months, but might be remembering what it perceived and experienced many years ago.

Under certain cases, the selfless 'normal' thinking and acting faculty that has been learning and remembering many things, knowledge and skills, but then it suffers short term or long term memory deficiency or malfunctioning due to certain reason at certain stage, where it couldn't remember some/many/all things from then onward, but it might still can be performing certain activities or skills autonomously deriving from the existing memory storage of what had been experienced, learned, processed and stored before the memory malfunctioning happens, even if the selfless thinking faculty has no idea of "I remember and know what is this or how to do this." Such as someone who had been learning and playing guitar, but somehow it couldn't remember or recall many things due to memory deficiency, or doesn't remember the name of this instrument, can still pick up the guitar and starts playing without thinking or remembering.

That's why the built up habit, addiction, egoism, way of thinking, beliefs, values, reasoning, understanding, desires, intentions, or mind behavior pattern that is influencing the behavior, action and reaction, is conditional, where it was and is continuously being conditioned in certain way, and hence, it can be re-conditioned, or be modified and changed.

That's why the early childhood up bringing by the parents or care taker, the surrounding environment, the mind inputs, the mingling and interactions with other minds, as well as the type of educational learning and training that the selfless thinking and acting faculty has been receiving, that is influencing and conditioning its way of thinking, reasoning, understanding, desire, intention and behavior pattern in certain way, is highly important. And most minds are being conditioned in the way that is based on the idea of 'I', egoism and ignorance. The good thing is that, all that is conditional, which means all that could be modified and changed by the effort of itself, under the presence of awareness and will power, or the desire of wanting to change itself, or the yearning towards liberation to be liberated from ignorance and its by-products.

That is also why the upmost importance of the observation of dispassion, seclusion, solitude, silence and renunciation of moving away from all kinds of worldly passionate egoistic ties, connections, communications, interactions, activities, inputs and affairs for the serious yoga and/or buddhism practitioners to activate the mind purification process, to be purifying or re-conditioning the modification of the mind, effectively.

If there's no function of memory in the modification of the thinking and acting faculty to be remembering the ceaseless thought process or thought activities of all kinds of perceptions and experiences arising, changing and passing away, there will be no idea of 'I' can be existing in the form of a continuous stream of thoughts that the thinking and acting faculty can remember and be identifying as 'I'. There's no attachment or identification towards any names and forms can be happening, as there's no remembrance towards any perceived names and forms. There's not even the idea of "Who am I?" or "I don't remember who I am." Unless it's a partial memory malfunctioning where the selfless thinking and acting faculty could still remember certain things while couldn't remember some other things.

Without the function of remembrance, there's no recollection of whatever have been perceiving by the selfless function of perception, where all kinds of perceived names and forms being reflected in the modification of the mind, ceaselessly arising, changing and passing away, not to say, to be remembering the process of learning, experiencing, knowing, reasoning and understanding, where all actions and reactions are being generated autonomously and spontaneously under the influence of the existing habits or behavior pattern that was and is continuously being conditioned in certain way.

Likewise, under the function of memory, the selfless thinking and acting mind can modified or changed the built up habits, way of thinking, belief/disbelief, values, behavior pattern or the states of the mind, through certain practice or training under the presence of correct understanding and will power.

There's no egoism can be existing in such mind that is completely void of the function of memory, as there's no remembrance towards anything or any thought for the selfless thinking faculty to hold onto, to attach onto, to be identifying with, to be associating with, to be generating craving or aversion upon, to be comparing or judging upon, and to be having any expectation towards anything to be or not to be in certain way, where all these egoistic traits are based on the existence of accumulated experience, learning, knowledge, intellectual reasoning and cognitive understanding that solely depending on the function of memory to be remembering as much as possible towards all perceptions, experiences, thought process or thought activities, learning, training, knowledge, skill, belief/disbelief, values, reasoning and understanding towards the perceived names and forms.

It's due to the function of memory, there's the idea of 'I' and egoism arising from ignorance, existing in and occupying the selfless modification of the mind. It's also due to the function of memory, there's possibility of performing certain practice to be eradicating the idea of 'I' and egoism and ignorance from the selfless existence and function of the modification of the selfless thinking and acting faculty.

It's actually beneficial for the selfless thinking and acting faculty to be functioning 'normally' and 'healthily' for not being able to remember all and everything, of all kinds of conscious, half-conscious and unconscious receptions or inputs, as it could give rise to constant restless disturbance in the selfless modification of the mind, especially if under the presence of ignorance and egoism, there is egoistic attachment, identification, association and the desire of craving and aversion being generated towards all kinds of names and forms that the mind has been perceiving and remembering since the beginning of the forming of the selfless existence and function of the selfless thinking faculty. There won't be any disturbance or problem if there's no egoistic attachment, identification, association or the desire of craving and aversion being generated towards all and everything that the selfless thinking faculty could remember since the beginning of its selfless existence and function.

Most minds have very limited memory power, and would not be able to remember all and everything exactly as it is in the last hour, not to say, since the beginning of the existence and function of the selfless perceptive cognitive intellectual emotional thinking and acting faculty along with the forming of the selfless physical body. Although there might be some minds might be able to remember all and everything clearly and exactly as what it was, which is also neither good nor bad, depending on the presence or absence of correct understanding or ignorance.

The function of memory is being influenced, determined and affected by the inevitable growing, decaying and aging process, and can be affected or impacted by certain illness, injury, malnutrition, imbalanced physical and mental activity and inactivity, or some other impactful factors, such as certain 'traumatic' experiences.

A highly efficient memory power of being able to remember all and everything exactly as it was, is neither good nor bad.

Short term or long term memory deficiency or malfunctioning of being unable to remember certain or many things or experiences, either partially, periodically, or completely, is also neither good nor bad.

The memory storage is what is, storing all kinds of memories of perceived names and forms, and it's not being affected by the efficiency of the function of memory or remembrance. Just as the malfunctioning of the playback function of the video camera, or the malfunctioning of the 'OPEN FILE' function of the computer, doesn't affect the recorded video clips in the memory card, or the saved data and information in the memory storage. However, the recorded video clips or the saved data and information could be corrupted due to certain malfunctioning or corruption of certain functions, regardless of whether the playback function of the video camera or the 'OPEN FILE' function of the computer is functioning properly, or not.

Similarly, the accumulated memories that were being stored in the memory storage could be corrupted due to the malfunctioning or corruption of the different functions of the selfless thinking and acting faculty, regardless of whether the selfless thinking and acting faculty can or cannot remember certain things or many things.

The good thing about having highly efficient memory power is that the selfless thinking and acting faculty can be processing and memorizing and recalling all kinds of learning and knowledge and skill training that it comes in contact with, effortlessly. Just like a high speed CPU of a computer with unlimited storage power and unlimited access to the unlimited data and information being kept in the memory storage that are available on the internet, can have high efficiency of being what it is, provided if there is battery or power available. The most advanced and efficient computer also cannot be operating, if without battery or power.

However, having a extremely high efficiency of memory power and unlimited storage capacity that can remember all and everything with tiny little details exactly as they are, doesn't necessarily correlate with the truth of what things were or what things are. Just as the high speed CPU of a computer with unlimited storage power (memory power and memory storage) and unlimited access to the unlimited data or information (knowledge) that are available on the internet, but not all stored and accessible data, information or knowledge are the truth of what things are, and even the most advanced high-tech CPU is also limited, as it is being programmed (conditional way of thinking, belief/disbelief, values, practice, reasoning, understanding, desire, intention, decision making, behavior pattern, or the states of mind) by certain programmers (influential factors that are limited and conditional) for it to be functioning or not functioning in certain way (the behavior, actions and reactions).

Regardless of whether there is high or low efficiency of memory power and memory storage capacity to be remembering what the mind can remember as much as possible towards all its mind perception of all kinds of names and forms, of ceaseless thoughts activities, either consciously, half-consciously or unconsciously, the accumulated memories in the memory storage is based on the limited mind perception of names and forms, or the limited and conditional modification of the mind, that is being limited by time, space and causation, that is most probably functioning under the veil of ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness, being conditioned by certain egoistic impure way of thinking, belief/disbelief, values and practice, where the thinking, knowledge, reasoning and understanding are not necessary correct or the truth of what things are.

Such as the recorded video clips might be displaying the images as they are, only limited to what are not being hidden behind certain objects and that are within the range of capturing depending on the camera lens dimension, but it cannot display all and everything else that are either hidden behind certain objects, or what are outside the range of capturing. And so, it's partially true, but not necessarily all the truth of what is happening at that time, even if the video clips are being recorded under extremely high definition with highest quality super clear images. Similarly, the mind perception of everything is very limited, even if the memory power is highly efficient with unlimited memory storage.

Cause and effect, or actions and consequences of actions, is still what it is, even if the selfless thinking and acting faculty cannot remember all its actions and reactions that are happening either with or without awareness, either autonomously or intentionally, under the presence or absence of correct understanding.

It could be something terribly unpleasant or disturbing, if the mind can remember all and everything as it is, where the mind is constantly restless being occupied by all the memory of all and everything, on top of the ceaseless perception of names and forms that the mind perceives in the present moment now, especially if the mind doesn't know what is non-attachment, non-identification, non-association, non-craving or non-aversion.

Such as most minds are continuously being determined, affected and disturbed by the repetitive remembrance towards certain past unpleasant, disagreeable and undesirable experiences, from time to time, and have no peace. Not to say, to be constantly remembering all that, all the time. Constantly missing and craving towards something pleasant and desirable, while being disturbed by and aversion towards something unpleasant and undesirable, due to incorrect understanding under the influence of the idea of 'I', ignorance, egoism, impurities and restlessness.

Most of the memories of perceived and processed names and forms, of directly or indirectly coming in contact with countless objects, affairs, experiences, learning, knowledge, information, countless mind inputs of all kinds of images, sights, sounds, smells, tastes, sensations, feelings, emotions, visualizations, movies, videos, dramas, theatre plays, shows, advertisements, talks, sermons, news portals, social medias, books, articles, fairy tales or stories, and so on, in different timings and in different places, that the selfless mind can remember in the form of memory, even if it was something that the mind perceived just a few moments ago, are most probably not exactly what it was, as the selfless function of mind perception is highly limited, not to say, on top of the accumulated memories are a mixture of distorted or partial memories, of ceaseless thought activities being processed under the veil of ignorance and egoism, where all kinds of inputs/information/ideas/stories/beliefs are not necessarily the truth of what things are, of wild imaginations, anticipations, projections, fantasies, wishful thinking and dreams.

One cannot reason, or debate, or argue with someone that has extremely high efficiency of memory power, that can remember everything with all tiny little details exactly as they are, while oneself doesn't really remember all and everything exactly as it is. One also cannot reason, or debate, or argue with someone who has memory malfunctioning, who is suffering from partial or complete memory deficiency where it couldn't remember some or all that it had said and done, what it had witnessed or experienced, or where it had been to, or, someone that is lost in its distorted or mixed up memories that are not what things really are, that is remembering things differently from what they really were, or remembering things that didn't happen or exist at all.

Inquire towards knowledge, intelligence, creativity and achievement

One can be highly knowledgeable through accumulating knowledge of this and that, from here and there, but it's not necessarily that one is also highly intelligent. That's okay.

One can be having very little knowledge about this or that, or being disinterested towards many different kinds of knowledge, but it's not necessarily that one is not intelligent. That's okay too.

One can be highly intelligent and knowledgeable at the same time, but it's not necessarily that one is also highly creative. That's okay.

One can be highly creative without being highly intelligent or knowledgeable. That's okay too.

One can be highly knowledgeable, intelligent and creative, but it's not necessarily that one will be achieving many achievements about this or that. That's okay.

One can be achieving many different kinds of achievement about this and that without being highly knowledgeable, intelligent or creative. That's okay too.

One can be highly knowledgeable, intelligent, creative and achieving many different kinds of achievement, but it's not necessarily that one is peaceful and capable of being kind and compassionate towards all and everyone, unconditionally without discrimination towards the different names and forms.

One can be peaceful, kind and compassionate without being highly knowledgeable, intelligent, creative or having many achievements about this and that.

One can also be peaceful, kind and compassionate while being highly knowledgeable, intelligent, creative and having many achievements about this or that.

As being peaceful, kind and compassionate is nothing to do with whether one is being highly knowledgeable, intelligent, creative and having many achievements, or not.

Whether a mind is being peaceful, kind and compassionate, or not, is determined by the presence or absence of ignorance and egoism.

Regardless of whether one is highly knowledgeable, intelligent, creative and having many achievements, or not, those who have attachment and identification towards the accumulated knowledge, degrees of intelligence, levels of creativity and amount of achievement under the influence of ignorance and egoism, and hence, they are being determined and affected by the presence and absence of all these names and forms, in order to feel good, satisfied and meaningful, or not, about oneself and one's life existence. These minds are being determined by the presence and absence of acknowledgement, affirmation, recognition, compliment and appreciation coming from oneself and others towards one's accumulated knowledge, intelligence, creativity and achievements, in order to feel good, satisfied and meaningful, or not. Under the influence of ignorance and egoism, one might be utilizing the existing accumulated knowledge, intelligence, creativity and achievements to be doing something hurtful or destructive towards oneself and others and the surrounding environment, either directly or indirectly, and either intentionally or unintentionally.

The minds that are free from ignorance and egoism, are not being determined by the accumulated knowledge, degrees of intelligence, levels of creativity and amount of achievement, as well as the presence and absence of acknowledgement, affirmation, recognition, compliment or appreciation. Such minds are capable of being peaceful as they are, as it is, while capable of being kind and compassionate towards oneself and all and everyone, unconditionally without discrimination, craving and aversion, judgment and expectation towards the presence and absence of certain qualities in oneself and all and everyone. These minds can be utilizing the existing accumulated knowledge, intelligence, creativity and achievement to be doing something beneficial for all and everyone that come under different names and forms, without discrimination of 'I' and 'my' and all the others that are different from 'I' and 'my', while not being determined by the absence or lack of certain knowledge, intelligence, creativity or achievements in oneself and all and everyone.

Those who are free from the influence of ignorance and egoism don't need to be acknowledged and recognized by oneself and others as "I am someone intelligent, knowledgeable, creative and with high achievements," and are free from the sense of high or low self-esteem, the sense of goodness or badness, the sense of satisfaction or dissatisfaction, and the sense of meaningfulness or meaninglessness.

Without any acknowledgement, affirmation, recognition, compliment or appreciation, and without being highly knowledgeable, intelligent, creative or having any kind of achievement, even after trying and doing one's best, one can still be contributing unconditional peace and loving kindness into the world of many diversities and the world of ignorance and the consequences of ignorance.

Even if the mind thinks and believes that, "I couldn't contribute peace and loving kindness into the world, as I couldn't love myself and others unconditionally, because of the presence of ignorance and suffering in me," that's okay too. By being aware of the ignorance and suffering in oneself, while accepting oneself (the state of mind/the condition of the body/the ability and limitation of the body and mind) in the present moment as one is, without discrimination, craving and aversion, judgment and expectation towards the presence and absence of certain qualities or elements in oneself, is already the presence of something beneficial to oneself and the world.

Meanwhile, the knowledgeable, intelligent, creative and successful minds that think and believe that, "I love myself and I love the world, and I want myself and the world to be like this and not like that, I want to protect myself and the world from anyone and anything that are different from I and contradicting with my thinking, my belief, my values, my practice and my desire," might be performing many actions that are hurting oneself and the world, either wittingly or unwittingly.

Never ending rubbish in the world of human beings and beyond

Greedy ambitious human beings who want to enjoy unlimited comfort of living, objects, toys, accessories, leisure activities and pleasurable enjoyments of the senses not just have been generating lots of rubbish on earth, but those who are knowledgeable, powerful and wealthy enough to be travelling outside of this planet utilizing their power, wealth and knowledge of higher science and technology, are/will be inevitably generating unnecessary human made rubbish into the space of the universe.

Unfortunately, there are many young people in the world are being 'empowered' to be proud of such 'actions', or 'capability', or 'achievement', to be admiring such human beings and their 'great achievement', and be inspired to become 'successful' like them.

Those organizations, or people, or influencers, who are directly or indirectly involving in any kinds of 'youth empowerment' or 'women empowerment' that 'meant' to be empowering youth or women, they need to see what they are actually doing, whether they are empowering 'youth' or 'women' to become responsible human beings that would be leading towards more peace and harmony into the world, or to become greedy and ambitious prideful human beings that would be leading towards endless 'human made destruction utilizing wealth, power and the knowledge of higher science and technology' into the world, and beyond.

Inquire towards the truth of confidence and self-confidence

Because most people were being told from young that confidence and self-confidence is a highly important quality that will influence and determine whether someone will be successful in whatever one pursues, and whether one will achieve certain accomplishment in life, or not, where people were being told that they need to have self-confidence, or what people refer as 'believing in oneself', as well as to develop and empower the sense of confidence, or what people refer as have faith in everything that support everything to be possible, where people think and believe that confidence or faith will make all the impossible become possible, and hence, people might not understand that they don't really need to have self-confidence to be who they are, that they don't really need confidence at all for carrying out their duties and responsibilities, looking after themselves or other beings, and for doing something or achieving something in life, whether it's something essential or non-essential.

That's why the very basic yoga practice is about freeing the mind from being conditioned by all kinds of worldly egoistic social/cultural/religious/spiritual/commercial/political/educational thinking, belief, values and practice. And this seems to be very hard for many yoga enthusiasts, where they would prefer to give themselves many justifications/reasons of why they don't need to be free from being conditioned by their existing inherited or adopted worldly thinking, belief, values and practice.

Quite many people are suffering from either low confidence (I can't do/achieve anything) or over confidence (I can do and achieve anything), which affect their life, their action/reaction, and their relationship with all and everyone.

The heart doesn't need to have self-confidence or confidence in order to be pumping the blood throughout the entire body every moment from the beginning of forming until it ceases functioning.

The hands don't need to have self-confidence or confidence to pick up a cup of hot drink, and to put down the hot cup instantly, because the cup is still too hot to hold.

The stomach and intestines don't need to have self-confidence or confidence to digest the food and extract nutrients from the food and to eliminate the non-digestible food waste.

It's either these organs are getting the enough supply of energy, hormones, secretions, oxygen, nutrients, minerals and water that they need, and the muscles and nerves are functioning properly, as well as not being overuse/over-worked, or not being attacked by some bacteria/virus, or not, in order to be functioning smoothly, or not.

It's the same in life. Self-confidence and confidence is not needed in order for someone to do or achieve something.

In the process of doing something, or trying to do or achieve something, or trying to be somebody, and whether one will be successful, or not, in one's pursue, self-confidence and confidence is irrelevant.

It's whether one has sufficient knowledge and understanding, and maybe also specific talent about something that one wants to do or achieve, and whether one has been training and practicing enough to develop and enhance the skill for doing or achieving something, as well as there are many other external factors that determine whether one can do or achieve something successfully at that specific time, space and causation, or not, even one has the sufficient talent, knowledge, understanding and skill in doing or achieving something.

We need to have certain knowledge and skill in order to do certain things or to achieve something, and different things or achievements require different types of knowledge and skill, on top of most things are sharing certain common knowledge and skill.

If we don't know how to do something because we don't have that particular knowledge and skill to do certain things or to achieve something, then we need to learn and practice until we can do certain things and to achieve something with the required knowledge and well-trained skill.

If someone has intense self-confidence strongly believing in oneself, and has high confidence towards oneself can do anything or can achieve anything successfully, but if without the specific knowledge or skill in doing certain things or to achieve certain achievements, it doesn't work.

What stops people from 'actually doing something regardless of what is the outcome', where people are having some ideas/thinking/aspiration about want to do something, but they have doubt, unsure, or uncertainty towards whether they can/should do it, or not, is because there is attachment and expectation towards the outcome or result has to be and not to be in certain way. There is fear towards failure and disappointment, or there's craving towards success and aversion towards failure. This fear towards failure and disappointment that stops people from actually doing something, is mainly due to pride and arrogance, "I cannot fail", "I don't want failure", and "I must succeed."

Those who are free from pride and arrogance, they can just do anything that they want, and they do their best in whatever they pursue, without thinking/considering about the possible outcome of success and failure, without fear towards failure or disappointment, and allowing the result/outcome to be what it is. They are not being determined by success and failure, or the outcome of their pursue. They understand that there is possibility of success and there is possibility of failure, and it's okay. If one just thinks about it but doesn't actually do it, then there is no possibility of achieving anything. This is nothing to do with self-confidence (faith and believing in oneself that one will be successful in everything that one wants to do and achieve) or confidence and faith towards anything that allows success in whatever people want to do or achieve.

If someone wants to be an architect, he or she needs to study architecture, and accumulates profound knowledge and develops understanding about architecture, and develops the specific skill that is required for being an architect. If someone has the interest in being an architect, but doesn't have the ability or talent to understand specific knowledge about architecture, or couldn't develop the required skill in being an architect, even after having enough knowledge about architecture, then even though one has intense self-confidence or high confidence about "I want to be an architect and I will be an architect for sure," but one couldn't become an architect due to some limitation. And it's okay. One can choose to do something else that is within one's ability, limitation and understanding, in the present moment. If after some time, the limitation that disallowed oneself to be an architect in the past have now changed for some reasons, where one can easily grasp the knowledge of architecture, or have no limitation to develop the required skill for being an architect, then one can pick up one's interest or ambition again. If it still doesn't work for some other reasons, it's okay.

It's the same as having expectation towards the outcome/result of one's action, by having intense self-confidence or high confidence strongly believing in oneself can do or achieve something successfully without failure, don't really change the outcome of one's action. It's either one do it, or not, and whether one gives one's best effort and full attention, or not, in the process of doing or achieving something. And whether the outcome/result is desirable, or not, it's nothing to do with the high or low expectation, and the high or low self-confidence and confidence.

It's the presence or absence of fear towards failure and disappointment, or the fear towards unable to do or achieve something due to pride and arrogance, and there is craving towards success/accreditation/acknowledgement/support and aversion towards failure/discredit/non-acknowledgement/losing support, that determining whether someone will be actually doing something and doing one's best to acquire the required knowledge and understanding, as well as being determined to be training and practicing the specific skill for doing something or achieving something, or not, without thinking about success and failure, without being determined by success and failure. One can be not successful in one's attempt to do or achieve something for some reasons, even after trying one's best with sufficient knowledge, understanding and skill for it, and it's okay.

For example, in any competitions.

One needs to have that specific talent, knowledge, correct understanding and skill in any particular type of competition, may it be something physical or mental, technical or artistic, or both. Upon having the specific talent, knowledge, correct understanding and skill, it requires lots of persistent but not excessive training and practicing to enhance the skill to the maximum, as well as be endowed with attention, focus, determination, perseverance, patience, forbearance, acceptance, adjustment, adaptation and accommodation in the process of training and practicing. Self-confidence and confidence has nothing to do with all these hard work, and doesn't change the outcome being what it is.

If the training or practice is not enough, if there is lack of attention, focus, determination, perseverance, patience, forbearance, acceptance, adjustment, adaptation and accommodation in the process of training and practicing, then it will influence the performance during the competition, for sure, even if oneself has intense self-confidence or high confidence about "I will win this competition and in all competitions," it doesn't work.

Those who understand, it's either win or loose/not winning in any competitions, and it's not that important, and will just do one's best and allow the result to be what it is. Maybe one's performance has been very good during training and practicing, but somehow, one's performance is not as good as it should be during the competition for some unexpected reasons, especially if it's a competition that requires team work or other people's coordination, and it's okay.

Sportsmanship, effort, attention, focus, non-expectation and acceptance are more useful and relevant than self-confidence or confidence and expectation in the process of training and practicing before the competition, and even more useful and relevant especially during the competition.

Another example, in crossing the road.

One needs to pay attention, and know to look out for any vehicles/cyclists/pedestrians/animals/objects coming from all directions and judge whether it's safe to cross the road at that timing, or not. One doesn't need to have self-confidence or confidence to cross the road. It's the presence or absence of fear that determines whether the person can cross the road calmly with the required attention and judgment of whether it's safe to cross at that timing, or not, as well as the patience to be waiting until it's safe to cross, even if the green light for the pedestrian crossing is on, as certain reckless irresponsible road users might not stop at the red light. By having strong self-confidence or confidence, or even intense faith in God, about "I can just cross the road anytime that I want and I don't need to pay attention or look out for any vehicles/cyclists/pedestrians/animals/objects coming from any directions, and nothing is going to happen on me," is mere ignorance.

For example, getting into a relationship.

By having strong self-confidence and high confidence in oneself doesn't determine that the person whom we love, will love us, or not, or want to be in a relationship with us, or not.

Some people say that they are not confident to love someone, or to be in a relationship with someone. But that is nothing to do with confidence, but it's actually fear towards being rejected, or aversion towards getting into a bad/difficult/problematic/failed relationship with the wrong person. Like anything else, one needs to know what is love and how to love before loving someone and getting into a relationship with someone, without hurting oneself and those whom one wants to love, and wants to be in a relationship with. Knowing what is love and how to love someone, is nothing to do with high or low self-confidence and confidence, but it's whether we know what is unconditional non-possessive desireless love, and know what is non-attachment, non-identification, non-craving, non-aversion and non-expectation, or not.

Last, but not least example, in giving birth.

Self-confidence and confidence is irrelevant in the labour process. Some women don't have any knowledge about conceiving and nurturing a baby, and doesn't have high self-confidence or confidence, but they still deliver their babies like everyone else. Some women may have high self-confidence or confidence towards delivering a healthy baby, but things might not happen exactly the way that they think and anticipate how it should be. Whether one is being a good mother, or not, is nothing to do with low or high self-confidence and confidence about "I am equipped with the knowledge and skill of being a good mother. I will be a good mother and I am a good mother." or "I don't know whether I will be a good mother, or not." It's about doing one's best to love unconditionally without attachment, possessiveness and expectation, and guiding the child wisely and compassionately, while learning and gaining experience throughout the entire process of bringing up a child.

No matter how strong is one's self-confidence believing in oneself, or has high confidence/faith towards God, the doctor/midwife and nurses, or being positive and optimistic, or how much knowledge about conceiving and nurturing a baby during pregnancy and after birth that one has, and has been planning a specific way to deliver the baby spiritually, efficiently or painlessly, or how well one has been preparing physically and mentally in delivering the baby, and still, it's not in one's control of how everything happens during the entire pregnancy, especially during the process of labour. Most women will say, it's so painful that one wouldn't think of anything else, about all the projection, preparation, anticipation or expectation, but just do one's best to deliver the baby safely within the shortest time as much as possible, minimizing the pain and any risk that endangering the safety of the mother and the baby, regardless of using whatever way that is most suitable at that time to deliver the baby to ensure the safety of the mother and the baby.

The process of learning and performing the yoga asana practice with the correct understanding is all about these. It's nothing to do with self-confidence or confidence in the process of learning or performing certain yoga asana poses, with the aspiration/expectation of "I can and will be able to do all these yoga asana poses perfectly." But, it's about being free from egoism of attachment, identification, desire of craving and aversion, judgment, comparison and expectation, on top of developing attention, focus, determination, perseverance, patience, forbearance, acceptance, adjustment, adaptation and accommodation, that allow the practitioner to keep trying and keep practicing until the practice comes to an end, upon Self-realization, without thinking about success and failure, or the outcome/result of the practice, without being determined by the ups and downs, pleasantness and unpleasantness, success and failure, what the body can do or cannot do, or what the mind knows and doesn't know during the entire process of learning and practicing.

More importantly, what the body can do or cannot do, and what the mind knows and doesn't know, as well as how much benefits/goodness/enjoyment or unpleasantness/difficulty one has been receiving from the yoga asana practice, doesn't determine whether the mind will attain Self-realization and be free from ignorance and suffering, or not. But the perseverance and determination of keep practicing without attachment, identification, craving, aversion, judgment, comparison and expectation, the ability of letting go and allowing everything to be what they are, as they are, and respecting all are impermanent, it doesn't matter after many years of practicing, the body still cannot perform many of the yoga asana poses, or whether can do all the poses comfortably/nicely, or not, will leads the mind towards Self-realization.

There's no need of self-confidence and confidence in anything, especially in selflessness.

Knowledge, talents and skills

Having some knowledge, talents and skills is very useful and helpful for people to be doing something in life. But it's okay and one doesn't need to feel bad about oneself, if one thinks oneself doesn't have much knowledge, talents or skills to be doing something in life.

As by having certain knowledge, talents and skills also doesn't guarantee that the mind is free from ignorance and suffering, or is peaceful and be able to forgive and let go something that the mind perceives as 'wrong', 'bad', or 'hurtful'. The mind might still be disturbed or determined by all the qualities of names and forms that are impermanent and selfless. Some people even use the knowledge, talents and skills that they have to be doing something that cause damages or harmful effects in the world.

Regardless of whether one is knowledgeable, talented and skillful to be doing something constructive/destructive in life, or not, it's about whether the mind is or isn't free from ignorance and egoism, that determines whether the mind will be disturbed or undisturbed by all the mind perceptions of names and forms, and whether the mind will have peace, being free from impurities, restlessness and suffering, or not.

People might have the knowledge, talent, skill or money to build the most beautiful functional house to live in, and people might attain some momentary satisfaction and happy feelings for being able to build a beautiful functional house to live in, but it doesn't guarantee that the people who build the house and those who live in the house are all free from ignorance, egoism, impurities, restlessness and suffering, or won't be disturbed by all the perceptions of names and forms, and are peaceful and compassionate and be able to forgive and let go something that the mind perceives as 'wrong', 'bad' and 'hurtful'.

Make good use of the knowledge, talents and skills that one have to be doing something constructive in life, if possible, but without attachment and identification towards the knowledge, talents and skills as 'who I am', without pride or the sense of superiority, and without being determined by one's action and the fruit of one's action coming from the knowledge, talents and skills that one have, to feel meaningful and happy, or not.

Ignorance?

Ignorance is not so much about not knowing much or knowing very little. Ignorance is about not knowing the truth of what is going on in the mind, or Selflessness and Impermanence. The truth is nothing to do with how much or how little the mind thinks it knows or doesn't know about this and that.

Acquiring and knowing lots of knowledge doesn't necessarily mean that one is free from ignorance. It is possible that one acquires and knows a lot of knowledge but is ignorant of the truth.

Without inquiring the truth of the acquired knowledge and blind-believing in the acquired knowledge, is ignorance. One who is proud and arrogant towards one's acquired and accumulated knowledge, will feel disturbed by other people who don't know what one knows, which one thinks and believes is true and correct. And hence, one wants to make other people to 'know' or to 'believe in'/'agree with' what one knows that one thinks and believes is true and correct, and will again feel disturbed when other people disagree with one's knowledge, or doubting/questioning towards what one knows.

No one should blind-believe in anything, but to inquire the truth of everything and realize the truth by oneself. Buddha didn't get disturbed by other people who disagreed with or didn't believe in what he knows or realized. Buddha didn't expect or didn't want people should believe in whatever he realized and said, or told and taught to other people. Instead, he taught everyone to inquire the truth of everything without blind-believe in anything, including whatever he realized and said, or told and taught to other people.

One can be highly knowledgeable and intelligent, but might not necessarily is happy or has peace, being restless, be disturbed, offended and hurt by the perceptions of names and forms that one dislikes and disagrees with, or doesn't desire. One doesn't know what is going on in one's mind or doesn't know the cause of restlessness and suffering.

Being proud and arrogant towards oneself being knowledgeable, and be disturbed or offended or hurt by what one doesn't desire, doesn't like, and disagrees with, is ignorance.

The one who is free from ignorance, doesn't expect and couldn't make other people be free from ignorance, but allowing everyone to realize the truth through self-inquiry and self-realization, and be free from ignorance, or not.

Being a 'good' and 'righteous' person who do 'good' and do the 'right' thing is not necessarily peaceful and be free from ignorance, egoism, disturbance, restlessness, impurities and suffering.

Being highly knowledgeable, knowing lots of information and facts about this and that, and have been reading many books about this and that also doesn't guarantee that one is peaceful and be free from ignorance, egoism, disturbance, restlessness, impurities and suffering. If one isn't free from ignorance and egoism, if one isn't free from anger, hatred, jealousy, feelings of hurts, pride, arrogance, desires of craving and aversion, fear and worry, one has no peace and might cause harm to oneself and others, whether intentionally or unintentionally, even if one acquired and have been accumulating and memorizing lots of information and facts about this and that, and can do many things with the knowledge that one has. One is not free at all.

One needs to know about one's mind, or know Thyself. The highest knowledge that would bring peace and harmony to oneself is the knowledge of knowing oneself, where there is no 'I' existing to be good or bad, to be right or wrong, to be positive or negative, to be happy or unhappy, to enjoy or suffer.

Practicing yoga is not about trying to acquire superhuman power to have all our wishes come true and changing the world to be the way that we like it to be, but it's to reform one's mind by purifying and eliminating the ignorance, egoism, restlessness, and impurities in one's mind to acquire the knowledge of oneself.

Teaching yoga to other people is not about trying to reform other people's mind, but only disseminating the teachings and practice of how to know Thyself/how to inquire the truth of everything/how to be free from suffering/how to realize unconditional peace, while allowing other people to be initiated and interested to reform their own minds, or not, through their own freewill, effort, and determination.

Be free.

Yoga practice - why and how?

The practice of yoga is about the realization of unconditional peace which is the nature of all beings beyond the mind perception of all the different qualities of names and forms that generate separateness and discrimination among all beings which lead to restlessness or peacelessness and suffering.

The root cause of restlessness or peacelessness and suffering is ignorance and egoism.

The unconditional peace is unconditioned/undetermined by the impermanent qualities of names and forms (the law of birth and death), and is realized upon the annihilation of ignorance and egoism.

The annihilation of egoism is the realization of selflessness.

Compassion is the active force of selflessness that allow actions being performed without egoism of attachment, identification, desires of craving and aversion, and expectation. Just like the sun, the water, the wind, the earth and the space, or like all the internal organs in the physical body. There are specific functions in their existence to support one another, but there is no egoism in them to influence or to control or to identify with their functions/actions and the fruit of their functions/actions.

Ignorance is not knowing the truth of names and forms, and egoism is born out of ignorance. Egoism is the idea of 'I' exist as an individual being attached to certain qualities of names and forms to be identified as 'I', where all sorts of desires of craving and aversions arise due to this false identity of 'I'. And all kinds of impurities of anger, hatred, jealousy, greed, dissatisfaction, disappointment, frustration, agitation, depression, hurts, offensiveness, defensiveness, fear and worry are born out of ungratified desires of craving and aversion. And hence, the mind is being in a state of restlessness or peacelessness and suffering. The mind appears to be not peaceful.

The ego, or who/what the mind thinks is 'I', is nothing but made up of mere pieces of BROKEN MEMORIES of all the perceptions of names and forms, life experiences, actions and reactions, feelings and emotions, imaginations, expectations, dreams and relationships with everyone and everything. What is not found in the memories, or beyond what the mind can recollect, there's no 'I'. People say, "This is not who you really are, you need to find/go back to your true identity of who you really are" or "This person is not what he/she appears to be, you need to find our his/her true identity of what he/she really is." Everyone can 'appear' or 'pretend' to be what they are or what they want to be and they are being different on different timing and condition, whether intentionally or unintentionally, with their appearance, personality, mentality, vision, mood and behavior are changing from time to time, but there is not a permanent 'I' being there as "this is who I really am."

There is no 'existence of an individual identity of who you really are' or 'who I think is the real I'. When one realized the true nature of oneself beyond the existence of the body and the mind and the worldly identity that attached onto certain qualities of names and forms, it's not about realizing my original self or a personal nature. It's the limitless/non-separate/egoless/selfless/nameless/formless/attributeless nature in all and everyone. The mind will be free from separateness and discrimination, and all the impurities of anger, hatred, jealousy, greed, offensiveness, defensiveness, hurts, fear and worry that come along with the existence of separateness and discrimination.

When a person lost all his/her memories, all the relationships with everyone with all the past painful and uplifting life experiences, and the past accumulated knowledge have no impact on this person's mind perception of himself/herself or his/her identity in the present. What is pride and arrogance about 'I' am knowledgeable or 'I' have great achievements? Subconsciously, this person might still be able to perform certain habitual actions without the memory of 'how did I know how to do this' and unwittingly react towards all the pleasant and unpleasant sensations that keep arising and passing away.

When a person feels bitter or hurt or angry about something unpleasant/painful that has happened on them, it is because of the attachment and identification towards all these memories of experiences that generates the reaction of bitterness or hurt or anger towards these experiences. The experiences and the memories of the experiences has no power to cause bitterness, hurt or anger. For example, if 'I' have no recollection/remembrance about something unpleasant or hurtful that has just happened, 'I' won't feel 'bitter' or 'hurt' or 'angry'. It is the continuous remembering what had happened that the mind recognizes as 'unpleasant' or 'hurtful' that causes the ego, or 'I', to continue to feel 'disturbed', and continuously react with 'bitterness', 'hurt' and 'anger'.

All the past reactions of pleasant and unpleasant feelings and emotions towards all kinds of pleasant and unpleasant sensations arising and passing away that has been storing in the subconscious mind might come up to the surface of the mind without remembrance/recollection of when and how did these feelings and emotions exist in the first place, the mind can be trained to just observe and be aware of them without attachment or identification, without reaction of craving or aversion, and allowing them to pass away. This is what deep mind purification is about.

Yoga practice is to purify and quiet the mind, to allow the mind to be open, unconditioned by any conditional worldly thinking and belief, to allow the mind to see the truth of names and forms as it is, to be free from ignorance and egoism and all kinds of impurities that lead to restlessness or peacelessness and suffering.

The realization of unconditional peace of selflessness is beyond the different states of the mind. Different states of the mind conditioned by cause and effect are being projected in the mind and all states of the mind are impermanent, and it is not 'I'. The mind projects restlessness. It is not 'I' am restless. The mind projects dullness. It is not 'I' am dull. The mind projects calmness. It is not 'I' am calm. The mind projects peacefulness. It is not 'I' am peaceful. The mind projects kindness. It is not 'I' am kind. The mind projects evilness. It is not 'I' am evil.

The mind is just what it is. It is neither good nor bad. It is neither perfect nor imperfect. It is neither pure nor impure. It is neither positive nor negative. It is neither wise nor unwise. Out of ignorance, the idea of 'I', 'my' and 'mine', and all kinds of ignorant thinking, attachment, identification, desires of craving and aversion arise in the mind that leads to the countless births and deaths of different states of the mind with all kinds of actions and reactions and the result/consequences/fruit of actions and reactions.

The big picture of the yoga and meditation practice is about purifying the mind to free the mind from the pollution of conditional worldly thinking and belief, which is the product of ignorance and egoism, as well as the fuel that feeds ignorance and egoism. And all these worldly thinking and belief about what is a meaningful life, how people should think and behave, act and react, and what people should believe in, are manipulated by many impure selfish minds. If the mind is under the influence of ignorance and egoism, it is easily be manipulated and influenced by what they perceive through the senses of seeing, reading, hearing, smelling, touching and thinking, that are not necessarily the truth of what things are. No matter how intelligent that the mind thinks it is, it still can be manipulated and influenced by worldly conditional thinking and belief, without knowing that it has already been manipulated or influenced by them.

Yoga and meditation practice is to free the mind that has been conditioning by all these worldly thinking and belief. And thus, there is a very important part of the yoga and meditation practice that is being ignored or criticized by many worldly people, including those who think they love yoga and practice yoga, which is the practice of SILENCE, to be in solitude and seclusion for a sustained period of time (at least 5-6 years), to move away from the society, stop mixing with worldly people, stop engaging in worldly interactions and conversations, stop reading newspapers, novels and magazines, stop watching TV programs, advertisements and movies, stop all kinds of worldly contact and communication. It doesn't matter whether the mind thinks these 'inputs' of the mind are true, or not true. By allowing the mind to be in silence and cleared out of all the worldly thinking and belief, be free from conditional judgment and expectation based on the worldly thinking and belief, the mind will be able to see the truth of things as it is. This sounds extreme or horrible for many people, but it is the most effective way to free the mind from being manipulated or influenced by ceaseless 'inputs' that are not the truth of what things are. Only those who are determined and are fearless to let go all the worldly thinking and belief as well as worldly identity with qualities of names and forms can truly practice yoga and meditation. Or else, everyone is just doing some forms of different styles and brands of 'yoga exercises' to feel good and look good.

There are many different practices exist to help in the purification of the mind, and to quiet the restless mind. The process of the mind purification and quieting the restless mind via intense disciplines and restrictions (mainly of renunciation from worldly ideas, affairs and activities) can be very unpleasant and prolonged. And hence, the qualities or the abilities of non-attachment, non-identification, non-expectation, desireless, self-introspection, self-discipline, self-control, self-reliance, faith, determination, perseverance, acceptance, tolerance, forbearance, adjustment, adaptation and accommodation play an important role to allow the peace seekers to keep practicing/purifying the mind disregards all kinds of obstacles and difficulties, until the mind is completely be free from ignorance and egoism, and realize selflessness and compassion, and unconditional peace.

The realization of yoga, or unconditional peace, is not possible if the peace seekers are reluctant to let go conditional worldly thinking and beliefs, and all kinds of worldly and personal identifications. The mind is not opened to just seeing everything as it is, but it's closed or limited by conditional worldly thinking and belief that influence how the mind perceives/understands everything. Whenever there's judgment and expectation from the mind towards everything that it perceives through the senses of what it sees, hears, smells, tastes, touches and thinks, it is based on what the mind thinks and believes what things are and how everything should be. And the ego or the false identification of 'I' generates craving and aversion based on the likes and dislikes, agreements and disagreements of the egoism towards all the names and forms that the mind perceives through the senses, ceaselessly and restlessly. There's no peace.

The realization of yoga, or unconditional peace, is nothing to do with what are the physical conditions, abilities and limitations, the thinking and belief, the intelligence, the talents, the skills of doing something, the creativity, the personality, the good and bad life experiences, the happy and unhappy feelings and emotions, whether one believes or disbelieves in God, religion or spirituality, and how much knowledge the mind knows or doesn't know about this and that in this worldly life existence about humanity, spirituality, culture, religion, arts, music, fitness, health, technology, engineering, science, geology, history, mathematics, chemistry, physiology, biology, anatomy, psychology, and etc.

It is nothing to do with whether the mind thinks the world is a good or bad place, whether there are good things or bad things happening in the world, whether the world is full of happiness or unhappiness.

It is nothing to do with how much information about yoga, the teachings of yoga and the practice of yoga that people have been accumulating from reading, watching, hearing and 'doing'.

People like to know/ask what type of yoga or yoga practice and their benefits, or how much and how long one has been 'doing' yoga, but all these doesn't correlate with the realization of yoga or the liberation from suffering. One can be trying hard to clean up a dirty floor, but in the process of cleaning the floor, one can be creating more dirt onto the floor at the same time. One thinks that "Oh, I cleaned the floor already. The floor should be clean now after my effort of cleaning the floor." but doesn't aware that the floor is still dirty. The action of cleaning the floor doesn't correlate with the cleanliness of the floor.

Be free.

Difficult life conditions and low education level don't make a being bad or immoral

Difficult life conditions and low education level are neither something good nor bad. It doesn't make a being good or bad.

People might easily relate crimes and criminals with those who live in difficult life conditions or have low education level.

There are people might use the difficult life conditions and low education level as an excuse to commit crimes or immoral conducts.

But, difficult life conditions and low education level don't make anyone a bad being or a criminal, to commit crimes or immoral conducts.

Those who might have difficult life conditions or low education level, but are endowed with integrity, self-respect and self-control, they strive diligently to improve oneself and one's life condition, through right livelihood, morally and rightfully.

There are those who might have easier life conditions and higher education level than many others are not necessarily be free from greed or won't be committing crimes and immoral conducts. Out of greed, they would lie, cheat, steal and harm other beings. Out of pride and arrogance, there are those who believe they are more superior than other beings would discriminate and abuse other beings whom they believe are inferior than them.

One must be endowed with integrity, self-respect and self-control, so that one won't be over-powered by greed to commit crimes or immoral conducts, disregard the living condition and education level that one has. One must be endowed with wisdom and compassion being free from ignorance and egoism, to be free from pride and arrogance, discrimination and abuse.

There's no superiority or inferiority. All are merely composition of elements and will decompose into elements. All are impermanent and selfless.

Those who are free, are not determined by any life conditions or education levels, and they don't need to plead any recognition or acknowledgement from any other beings, to be 'somebody' who needs recognition or acknowledgement.

And this is nothing to do with religion or spirituality.

May all be free.

Knowledge is neither good nor bad

Knowledge itself is neither good nor bad, but it's whether one uses the knowledge selflessly, wisely and compassionately, or not. Some use the knowledge to be performing actions that would promote peace and harmony in oneself and others, while some might use the knowledge to be performing actions that would generate unrest and disharmony in oneself and others.

Knowledge is neither positive nor negative, but due to different mentality or states of the mind, different people generate different actions and reactions towards the knowledge that they come in contact with.

Knowledge doesn't guarantee anyone be free from ignorance and egoism or suffering, or to have peace and be compassionate. One can be extremely knowledgeable, but still be influenced by ignorance, egoism and impurities, and would experience unhappiness and suffering.

As long as there's attachment and identification and feeling proud and arrogant about the knowledge we know or have, or towards the result of our actions being performed based on the knowledge we know or have, then we are not free.

Purify the mind, be free from ignorance and realize selflessness, one can make use of any knowledge selflessly, wisely and compassionately, without attachment or identification with the knowledge, and being undetermined by the knowledge, or the actions performed based on the knowledge and the result of the actions.

Be free.

Ignorance and be free from ignorance...

There are people who read a lot, and some may read a little, while some don't read at all, but it doesn't determine whether they will be happier, or more unhappy than one another. As whether reading a lot, or a little, or not reading at all, doesn't determine whether our mind will be free from ignorance, egoism, attachment, identification, craving, aversion and all sorts of impurities, like anger, hatred, dissatisfaction, disappointment, depression, jealousy, fear, worry, feelings of hurts, and etc.

Knowing a lot of things through reading a lot, doesn't determine that one will be free from unhappiness and suffering.

It's the same as, what we believe and don't believe, what we eat and don't eat, what we like to eat and don't like to eat, what we do and don't do, what we can do and cannot do, whether we think we are good or not good, whether we think we did a lot of good actions or not, whether we have good intentions or bad intentions, whether we think we are spiritual or non-spiritual, whether we think we are intelligent or unintelligent, also don't determine whether one will be free from ignorance, egoism and suffering.

Those who think they are not good enough, or they are not spiritual, or they don't know much about this or that about science, mathematics, geography, history, politics, sociology, biology, chemistry, physics, phycology, anatomy, physiology, religion and culture, and etc, they still can be free from ignorance and suffering, if they know how to free the mind from egoism, attachment, identification, desires of craving and aversion.

Those who think they are good beings, or they are spiritual, or they know a lot about this and that about science, mathematics, geography, history, politics, sociology, biology, chemistry, physics, phycology, anatomy, physiology, religion and culture, and etc, they still can be not free from ignorance and suffering, if they don't know how to free the mind from egoism, attachment, identification, desires of craving and aversion.

It doesn't matter who we are, how we are, where we are, what we do or don't do, what we believe or don't believe, religious or non-religious, spiritual or non-spiritual, good or not good enough, feel good or don't feel good, it is through ceaseless effort to restrain the activities of the mind and quieting the mind, to keep the mind in the present, to eliminate the egoism, to free the mind from both worldly and spiritual attachment, identification, desires of craving and aversion, judgment, comparison, expectation, and all sorts of impurities, to know the truth of things as they are, to realize attributelessness, namelessness and formlessness, and thus realize unconditional love and peace, and hence be free from ignorance and suffering.

If people have different point of views about what is freedom and happiness to them, that is their freedom of thinking and understanding, and freedom to strive for what they believe in.

Be happy.

Accumulated knowledge and self-realized knowledge...

It doesn't matter how many books we have read about yoga and meditation, accumulating lots of information about this and that, from here and there,

We can use those information to talk to other people about yoga and meditation,

Or to teach yoga and meditation classes to others,

And we might feel good and proud about ourselves can teach a relatively good yoga and meditation class based on the information that we acquired from the books, or heard from other people,

But then ourselves are not free from worldly self-image or identifications with different qualities of names and forms,

We attach and rely onto other people's reactions and feedback towards ourselves and our actions or performances, to feel good, happy, meaningful and confident, or not.

We are determined by the impermanent conditions and abilities of the physical body to be who we are,

We are determined by the efficiency of the function of our sense organs and the senses to be who we are,

We are determined by the accumulated knowledge or information to be who we are,

We are determined by a particular (or multiple) specie, gender, culture, race, nationality, belief, religion, points of view, personality, behavior, family ties, personal relationships, interests, talents, skills, sexual orientation, social lifestyle, way of life, living environment and condition, possessions, what we do and don't do, what we have and don't have, acknowledgements, individual or group achievements, worldly or spiritual achievements and contributions to be who we are,

We are not free from dissatisfaction, disappointment, frustration, irritation, greed, anger, hatred, jealousy, animosity, regrets, guilt, feelings of hurts, fear and worry,

We perceive ourselves as victims of suffering, impermanence, crisis, unjust, discrimination, prejudice, racism, betrayal, fraud, lies, misunderstanding, or ill-treatment,

We still have many worldly desires need to be fulfilled, there are many worldly or spiritual activities we need to accomplish, to feel meaningful and confident about ourselves and life existence,

And we are disturbed and determined by whatever the mind perceives through the senses, and haven't realize unconditional love and peace, to be in harmony within oneself and with other beings or the environment,

We expect other beings and the environment that we don't like or disagree with will change into something that what we think and believe as the way it should be or the way that we like it to be,

As we are still very much being over-powered by the egoism, the worldly self-image and self-esteem, the actions and the fruit of actions, the conditioned and limited thinking and beliefs, the feelings and emotions, the desires, the likes and dislikes, the agreements and disagreements, the craving and aversion coming from the impure egoistic mind,

As we haven't realized the knowledge of the Self, about non-duality, non-separateness, attributelessness, namelessness and formlessness through our own self-realization,

It means we still need to work on disciplining ourselves, purifying and restraining the mind.

Keep practice.

Worldly knowledge doesn't guarantee peace and compassion, wisdom will...

If worldly knowledge can guarantee us peace and compassion, then all the knowledgeable people on this planet will be peaceful and compassionate. But, it's not necessarily.

It doesn't matter who we think we are, or we think we know about the scientific facts about this and that, or how much knowledge that we attain from reading books and hearing from other people's research and their personal experience, it still doesn't guarantee us peace and compassion, be free from suffering and unhappiness that derived from ignorance, egoism, attachment, and impurities.

Or else, all the geniuses, scientists, mathematicians, doctors, lawyers, psychologists, physiologists, teachers, historians, geographers, engineers, economists, artists, architects, social activists, social workers, philosophers, yoga teachers, religious teachers, environmentalists, ecologists, or any fields that we think we expertise in, will be free from suffering of ignorance, hunger, thirst, changes, old age, decay, sickness, weakness, injuries, pain, death, separation from things and people that we like, come in contact with the things and people that we don't like, anger, hatred, jealousy, fear, worry, doubts, greed, dissatisfaction, disappointment, agitation, depression, feelings of hurts, pride, arrogance, animosity, offensiveness, defensiveness, insult, humiliation, craving and aversion, and so on.

The stronger we attached to the egoism and qualities of names and forms, the more we think we are smarter or better than other beings, and the more suffering and unhappy we will be, as we will get very impatient, dissatisfied, disappointed, frustrated, irritated, or angry with other beings whom we think and believe as less smart and less good than us.

Same as, being vegetarian or non-vegetarian, or what we eat and don't eat, also doesn't guarantee peace and compassion. Nor does being a yogi, a yoga teacher, a Buddhist, a Hindu, a Christian or any names and forms that we identify ourselves with, will guarantee peace and compassion. Nor does a healthy, fit, strong and flexible physical body will guarantee peace and compassion.

As long as we attach to the egoism and all the qualities of names and forms to be who we are; We think we are good and compassionate people; We think we do many good actions; We think we don't do any bad actions (not intentionally); We attach to our actions and the result, or the fruit of our actions; We expect the world will be the way that we like it to be, or how we think it should be; We expect other people also will be as good as us; We expect cooperation and support from other human beings on this planet to make the world a better place; Then our minds won't be able to be at peace, nor are we compassionate beings as what we think we are.

Unless, our minds are free from ignorance, egoism, attachment and impurities through our personal direct realization of the truth. Being aware of the reality as it is, and able to allow the reality to be what it is, not necessary the way that we like it to be, or the way that we think it should be, based on what our minds believe what things are.

We can do our best. Make good use of the knowledge and talents that we have to be serving ourselves and others, contributing our service to the world, but be free from egoism, identification and attachment towards our actions and renounce the fruit of actions. This will allow us to have peace in oneself, and be truly compassionate towards all beings, including oneself.

Om shanti.

About Yoga

Know thyself. Everything is impermanent and selfless. There is no 'I'. There is no 'I am selfless'/'I am not selfless'. There is no 'I am hurt'/'I need to be healed from hurt'. Non-blind believing, non-blind following, non-blind practicing and non-blind propagating, but be open-minded to inquire the truth of everything. Be free. Be peaceful. Be happy.
