The different stages of understanding and realization

The many different individual minds are functioning under the influence of the different degrees of ignorance and its by-products, that gives rise to different degrees of correct understanding, incorrect understanding, misunderstanding, non-understanding, partial understanding, and complete understanding, that gives rise to the different types of way of thinking and reasoning, way of practice and doing things, values, desires, behavior, or action and reaction.

In the beginning on the path of yoga and/or buddhism, when the mind is still very much functioning under the influence of the veil of ignorance, where there is the natural presence of the idea of 'I' in the thinking/thought process/modification of the mind that gives rise to the sense of separateness and duality, that gives rise to grasping, or egoism of attachment, identification, craving and aversion, comparison, judgment, and expectation, that gives rise to all kinds of impurities and restlessness that forms and empowers the veil of ignorance, on top of the mind has been being conditioned and influenced by certain inherited and/or adopted worldly passionate egoistic cultural/spiritual/religious/political/commercial/philosophical/social/educational/regional/national inputs, ideas, beliefs, values, and practice, to reason, understand, think, feel, desire, behave, or act and react in certain way and not in certain way, that hinders the mind from seeing and knowing and understanding all and everything as it is, then there is the need of the presence of certain teachings/observations/practices under certain names and forms that the mind can grasp, comprehend, be attracted to, and agree with.

Under the condition of being ignorant, egoistic, impure, and restless, the mind reasons, understands, thinks, and believes that Selflessness is a quality or state of being that can be developed, modified, and achieved, that can be gained or lost, that can increase or decrease, that can be absent or present. - "I used to be selfless, and now I am not selfless, and vice versa", or "I am not selfless, and hence, I am practicing yoga/buddhism practice to become selfless."

Under such understanding, the mind thinks and believes that Selflessness is about the absence of the ego and egoism in itself, that Selflessness is the highest and purest fruit/outcome/result of the practice, where one will attain the state of Selflessness or purity upon the annihilation of the ego and egoism, where the mind understands, thinks, and believes that the ego is about pride and arrogance, where having big and strong ego means having intense pride and arrogance under the absence of humility and humbleness, while having small and weak ego means very little pride or arrogance under the presence of certain degrees of humility or humbleness, while ego-less means the complete absence of pride and arrogance under the full presence of humility and humbleness, or down to earth, or forgiving, or generosity, or simplicity, or gratitude, or unselfishness, or self sacrifice, and so on. - "I was originally selfless and pure, but due to ignorance, I became non-selfless and impure. I need to go back to the state of selflessness and purity, and I will be free."

Under such understanding, the mind thinks and believes that itself has a permanent independent infinite unlimited continuous beginningless and endless (birthless and deathless) immortal selfless pure existence, that is undergoing countless impermanent limited and conditional mortal births and deaths under countless different separate life existence, one after another, that had started due to an initial downfall, or sin, or seed of ignorance, falling down from the realm of immortality to the many different transitional realms of mortality (countless and endless reincarnations/rebirths/births and deaths transitioning in between different realms), that has been being powered by ceaseless and endless generation and accumulation of boundless 'good/bad/neutral karma', or 'virtues and sins', that gives rise to boundless old and new causes and effects, that gives rise to the seemingly endless loop or wheel of endless births and deaths in order to 'burn-off or reap', or to 'enjoy or suffer' the boundless and endless generation and accumulation of 'good/bad/neutral karma', or 'virtues and sins', that keep carrying forward to the next and next reincarnations/births and deaths, that will never come to an end.

The mind understands, thinks, and believes that in order to stop or to exit the loop of endless births and deaths, or to be liberated from all kinds of painful suffering, limitations, undesirable conditions, or restless mortal life existence that needs constant maintenance, is

either by doing everything good/virtuous and don't do anything bad/sinful in accordance to the particular inherited and/or adopted cultural/spiritual/religious ideas, belief, values, and practice in the mind about what is good and bad, or what is virtuous and sinful, hopefully either one will be reincarnating to the higher realms of enjoyment upon/after death, or hoping that eventually the boundless accumulation of 'good karma' or 'virtues' undergoing many countless different separate life existences or reincarnations will be enough for it to return to the realm of immortality,

or by inaction and non-reaction, to stop generating any type of fresh 'karma' as well as to endure all kinds of difficulties, struggles, hardships, ill-treatments, exploitation, hurts, or painful suffering in silence without reaction or retaliation, in order to 'burn-off' the past accumulated 'karma', and hoping that the loop/wheel of births and deaths will come to a standstill, or disappear,

or by repent and praying day in and day out, sincerely and diligently, hoping that eventually 'the almighty one' or 'the highest spiritual authority of the universe' will come to rescue and bring oneself back to the realm of immortality,

or by purifying the impure body and mind via certain techniques/methods/observations/practices, to render it absolutely pure and perfect physically and mentally without any impurities, or weakness, or short-coming, or illness, or decay, or aging, to merge the body, mind, and spirit/soul to become one, where most minds interpret yoga as 'the union of the body, mind, and spirit/soul',

or by purifying the lower impure consciousness, or the lower impure finite self, that is not who/what I really/originally am. What/who I really am, or my original true identity, was something perfect/pure/infinite/unlimited/unconditional/permanent/independent/birthless/changeless/decayless/deathless/timeless/attributeless, and that was devoid of the painful suffering of undergoing ceaseless impermanent, limited, and conditional impure/decay-able/momentary mortal restless births and deaths, but somehow it is reluctantly undergoing endless 'punishment' to be undergoing countless rounds of impermanent mortal life existences due to an initial downfall, or the initial seed of ignorance/sin. And hence, by purifying the lower impure consciousness/self will allow 'who I am' to regain the true identification with the original higher pure consciousness or the higher pure infinite Self (that is perfect and pure, that is infinite and permanent, or timeless and changeless, that is devoid of impermanent, limited, and conditional mortal transitional life existence under the impermanent, limited, and conditional existence and function of a body and mind that is full of all kinds of impurities, imperfections, limitations, ceaseless maintenance, painful sorrow, physical/mental/emotional suffering, or meaninglessness, transitioning in between different realms governed by the past total generation and accumulation of boundless 'good/bad/neutral karma' or 'virtues and sins').

Under this understanding, the mind thinks and believes that it is or has an individual consciousness that was originally pure, but somehow it is being contaminated and clouded by the impurities in the impure restless modification of the mind. That is why it doesn't know or couldn't recognize itself. At this stage, the mind thinks and believes that itself is the mind consciousness or the mind conscious awareness that is separated with the modification/mechanism/function of the mind that is impermanent and limited, where the mind thinks that the consciousness that gives rise to the conscious awareness to the mind, that is permanent and unlimited and unconditional, that is uncontaminated and undetermined by the restless impure egoistic modification of the mind that gives rise to the different impermanent states of mind, is itself, or who I am, that belong to itself. Due to the restless egoistic thoughts activities and impurities are ceaselessly occupying the modification of the mind, and hence, it couldn't see or know itself (the conscious awareness doesn't know itself, but it has been ignorantly identifying with the egoistic impure restless perceptive cognitive intellectual emotional thinking and acting faculty of the physical body as 'I').

The mind thinks and understands that 'to know Thyself' means to see or know and regain its real identification with its own pure consciousness/Self. By purifying the contaminated impure lower consciousness that is being contaminated/veiled by the restless egoistic thought activities and impurities in the modification of the mind, will remove the contamination of impurities/the veil of ignorance, to regain and return to the state of purity in the consciousness, to return to its original state of purity, which is also identical with or non-distinctive from the all pervading timeless attributeless changeless birthless deathless universal consciousness, or what certain spirituality or religion refer as 'The creator and the judge of everything' or 'God existence'. - "I am THAT", "I am purity", "I am immortal", "I am infinite, all powerful, all knowledge, all existing/pervading, and all bliss."

or by dis-identifying with the finite impure mortal body and mind, while identifying with the infinite pure immortal Self identity of a permanent independent immortal unique individual pure soul/spirit/consciousness, where the mind thinks and believes that there is the existence of a permanent independent infinite perfect flawless Self identity of an immortal unique individual pure soul/spirit/consciousness existing, or residing, or being trapped in the limited and conditional mortal finite imperfect impure body and mind, where the immortal pure individual soul/spirit/consciousness is distinct from or separated from the mortal impure body and mind that is full of all kinds of impurity and imperfection, where the mortal impure body and mind is undergoing/experiencing ceaseless impermanent changes and all kinds of suffering deriving from impermanent changes, a.k.a. birth, or coming into existence, growth, ceased growing, decay, weakness, illness, fragility, discomfort, aging, disintegrating, and decomposing, or death, while the immortal individual soul/spirit/consciousness is unaffected or uncontaminated by all that. - "The mortal impure body and mind is subject to death, that will die and cease existing, but the immortal individual pure soul/spirit/consciousness of 'who I really/originally am' will continue to exist 'somewhere' upon/after each of the countless deaths of the different life existences of a mortal body and mind."

Meanwhile, under this understanding, the mortal impure body and mind has a beginning of existence and an end of existence, and the impure ignorant mind has been generating boundless actions and reactions through the physical body that turn into endless accumulation of 'good/bad/neutral karma', but 'somehow', the innocent immortal individual pure soul/spirit/consciousness that is silently residing in the background has to be reincarnating into ceaseless rounds of births and deaths of countless separate different life existences, transitioning in between different realms, based on the boundless and ceaseless past generated and total accumulated 'good/bad/neutral karma', or 'virtues and sins', which then forms and powers an endless loop or wheel of births and deaths that seemed to be impossible to come to a standstill or to be exit/free from. Or, under certain spirituality/religious ideas/belief/values/practice, upon the death of the impure body and mind, the innocent pure soul/spirit/consciousness will be judged and be sentenced to 'heaven to enjoy' or 'hell to suffer' accordingly by 'the creator/judge/highest spiritual authority of the universe' for all the good and bad deeds that were being performed by the impure mind via the impure body. - "I am not the body. I am not the mind. The mortal impure impermanent imperfect limited and conditional finite body and mind is not I. I am the immortal pure permanent perfect unlimited and unconditional infinite Self."

or by annihilating the veil of ignorance, where the mind understands, thinks, and believes that the veil of ignorance is a form of short-coming, weakness, stupidity, low intelligence, lack of education, lack of knowledge, laziness, reluctant to learn/to know/to understand, negativity, inferiority, failure, selfishness, or evilness, that it is shame/humiliation/criticism/punishment/suffering deserving, and that the annihilation of the veil of ignorance is absolutely challenging, that it is unrealistic, and even impossible or unreachable no matter how, due to the existing stubborn veil of ignorance,

or by adopting Sattvic food consumption - devoid of stimulants (Rajasic) or depressants (Tamasic), and engaging in Sattvic activities for the body and mind (physical and mental inputs and outputs) that can influence the energy field (the state of mind) up to certain extend, that is highly recommended for the highly passionate egoistic impure restless minds that are seriously lack of conscious willpower, non-attachment, detachment, self-restraint, self-discipline, or self-control, that are easily and/or completely be influenced and determined by the perception of different experiences/dualities/qualities/ideas/affairs/relationships/interactions/conditions/situations, but, it doesn't matter for the minds that are endowed with basic correct understanding, mental and emotional independence, non-attachment, detachment, willpower, and self-control, that are effortlessly being unaffected or undetermined by the different experiences/dualities/qualities/ideas/affairs/relationships/interactions/conditions/situations,

or by developing and empowering positive thinking to counter negative thinking, which only serves as a soothing or relieving element, but it is not the end or goal of the journey,

or by engaging in one or combination path of yoga - Karma Yoga (selfless action/service), Bhakti Yoga (devotion - chanting/prayer/japa/mantra/rituals), Raja Yoga (Ashtanga - Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi), or Jnana Yoga (wisdom/right discrimination/contemplation/Self-inquiry/Vichara/Vedanta). They exist to suit the many different minds under different types of condition, situation, temperament, characteristic, and personality, and they appear to be separated and different from one another, but they all have the one same essence which is about the annihilation of the idea of 'I', egoism, impurities, and restlessness, or the annihilation/subjugation of the passionate egoistic impure restless modification of the mind, or the stillness/silence of the restless thought current.

All the mentioned different types of observation and practice doesn't guarantee the direct realization towards the truth of Selflessness, Impermanence, Limitation, Conditional, and Non-self, if without the elimination of the idea of 'I' and egoism.

Just by engaging in any or all kinds of yoga and/or buddhism observation and practice regularly or irregularly while observing a clean and pure vegetarian food consumption, that gives rise to many impermanent momentary desirable side-effects or physical and mental health and fitness benefits, as well as 'do everything good and don't do anything bad' and 'positive thinking', that gives rise to the momentary sense of goodness, righteousness, positiveness, happiness, hope, and meaningfulness, but if without working on eliminating the ego and egoism, consciously and practically, during the practice and outside the practice in daily life existence/affair/interaction/relationship, it doesn't lead the mind towards the liberation from ignorance and the suffering deriving from ignorance. And that's okay too.

Although under the presence of the sense of self-righteousness in the passionate egoistic impure restless mind might give rise to certain harmful action and reaction towards what the mind perceives/understands/thinks/believes/recognizes as 'bad', 'wrong', 'negative', 'hurtful', 'betrayal', 'immoral', 'disrespectful', 'humiliation', 'intimidation', 'destructive', 'offensive', 'cruel', or 'evil', which is completely nothing to do with yoga and/or buddhism, or wisdom and compassion.

Regular and persistent engagement in certain observation and practice is highly important for the minds that are still functioning under the veil of ignorance and perceiving all kinds of disturbance and painful suffering, but whether the mind will attain direct realization towards the truth of the selfless impermanent limited and conditional momentary existence of all kinds of names and forms, or about the many different individual selfless body and mind and the one and only timeless attributeless all pervading selfless universal consciousness that doesn't belong to anyone or anything, or about selflessness, non-duality, oneness, non-separateness, timelessness, attributelessness, birthlessness, and deathlessness, or about the veil of ignorance, the ego, egoism, impurities, restlessness, and the selfless impermanent limited and conditional manifestation of all kinds of names and forms manifesting/changing/coming and going governed under the nature's law of cause and effect in the infinite space that doesn't belong to anyone and anything, or not, it doesn't matter at all.

And, there might be some other forms of understanding/beliefs/values/ideas that exist as the medium that initiates or motivates the mind to be engaging in some kinds of observation and practice, but all are having the similar goal or objective about attaining, or regaining, or returning to the state of immortality, or purity, or unlimited, or unconditional, or suffering free, or pure and eternal bliss, or going back to 'God', or 'the highest realm of optimum enjoyment and bliss', or 'heaven', or 'super extraordinary mystical power of making all wishes come true and controlling everything to be the way that I desire', or longevity, or forever youthfulness, or illness and injury free.

There is an instinctive natural common yearning towards unconditional and unlimited freedom, liberation, knowledge, and peace, or what most minds misinterpreted as the fleeting momentary sense of satisfaction, dominant power of control/influence/manipulation/bully, wealth/possession hoarding, relationship/ties and connection accumulation, power of creation and expansion, and the sense of self-esteem and self-worth, goodness, righteousness, accomplishment, happiness, joyfulness, and meaningfulness deriving from the gratification of boundless desire of craving and aversion, in all the conscious egoistic impure restless minds that perceive restlessness and all kinds of undesirable evitable and inevitable painful suffering under the presence of the idea of 'I', egoism, impurities, and restlessness in the selfless impermanent limited and conditional modification of the mind, under the presence of conscious and semi-conscious awareness during the state of consciousness and semi-consciousness.

All conscious self aware and self acknowledging minds naturally want to be free, be happy, be unlimited, be forever, except the minds that have attained direct realization towards the truth of Selflessness, Impermanence, Limitation, Conditional, and Non-self in all kinds of names and forms, where these minds are effortlessly resting in unconditional peace.

And hence, the minds that are 'not free', 'not happy', 'being limited', and 'being momentary' are motivated to be engaging in certain observation and practice under different names and forms enthusiastically and regularly, in order to be able to be free from all kinds of limitation, condition, decay, aging, illness, fragility, discomfort, unhappiness, painful sorrow, physical/mental/emotional suffering, disintegration, and mortality (death), or to exit the restless loop or wheel of countless and endless births and deaths, or to be attaining ultimate freedom of existence/being/living/movement/action/expression/thinking and belief, or to be attaining the highest liberation of to be liberated from ignorance and suffering devoid of cruelty and violence, or to be attaining the wishful mystical superpower of controlling/manipulating/influencing/manifesting everything under one's desire.

Regardless of the different characteristics, personalities, beliefs, values, motivations, desires, initiations, teachings, practices, or understanding that bring the different minds onto the path/engagement/action of 'attaining what the mind wants to attain', the most important and essential teachings in this beginning stage is about - Non-blind believing, non-blind following, non-blind practicing, non-blind agreeing/disagreeing, non-blind propagating, non-blind glorifying, and non-worshiping, while inquiring the truth of all and everything, to attain the direct realization towards the truth of everything that the mind comes in contact with, of all kinds of existing inherited and adopted ideas, beliefs, values, practices, inspirations, and aspirations, including all kinds of teachings, observations, and practices of yoga and/or buddhism that the mind comes in contact with, that was heard, read, or learnt from anyone and anywhere, even if it is directly coming from an enlightened mind that has awakened or liberated from the veil of ignorance, a.k.a. any Buddha/Guru/yogi/dhamma teacher, where the essential teachings or dhamma of both yoga and buddhism is the same -

It is about developing and empowering open mind and non-grasping, self investigation and self introspection, self inquiry and self realization, while engaging in certain observations and practices regularly under the different partial imperfect knowledge and different stages and degrees of understanding, and keep practicing until the mind attains direct realization towards the truth as it is, under a rendered calm, quiet, and focused state of mind.

And hence, the highly importance of the observation of dispassion (Vairagya), right discrimination (Viveka), self inquiry and self introspection (Vichara), study of the scriptures/teachings/dhamma (Swadhyaya), desirelessness, renunciation, solitude, seclusion, silence (Mauna), mental and emotional independence, withdrawal of the senses (Pratyahara), concentration (Dharana), self discipline (Dama), the middle path, steadiness/equanimity/tranquility (Sama), one-pointedness/attentiveness (Samadhana), forbearance (Titiksha), surrendering/letting go the ego and egoism (Pranidhana), or cessation of worldly affairs/activities (Uparati), for an extended duration, under the presence of intense yearning towards liberation, knowledge, freedom, and peace (Mumukshutva), to free the mind from being conditioned by worldly passionate egoistic impure restless ideas, beliefs, values, practices, desires, ties and connections, activities, affairs, habitual behavior, action, and reaction, to prepare the mind for meditation (Dhyana), self-inquiry, and self-realization. More importantly, all those observation and practice are being performed under the absence of grasping, devoid of attachment or identification towards the practice and the fruit/outcome/result/side-effects of the practice.

x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x

After having engaging in certain regular observation and practice of yoga and/or buddhism for certain duration enthusiastically and diligently, especially under the observation of renunciation, dispassion, and silence in solitude and seclusion to be minimizing or cutting-off worldly passionate egoistic affairs/activities/interactions/communications/ties and connections, to be rendering the mind more and more quiet and focus, or less and less restless and distracted than before, the mind will eventually realize that all those existing understanding, thinking, belief, teachings, observation, practice, desire, and motivation, even though they are directing/showing the mind towards the direction of attaining 'what they want to attain', or mainly the liberation from ignorance and suffering, that initiates and motivates the mind to be embarking onto the journey of self inquiry and self realization, but it is not the truth as it is, nor the ultimate goal of the practice, as the mind won't be able to grasp or comprehend the absolute truth of Selflessness if without the initial active continuous engagement in all kinds of observation and practice regularly being initiated or motivated by the partial incomplete understanding, where they are only some useful and practical partial knowledge and understanding that can be comprehended or grasped by the mind that was highly egoistic, impure, restless, disturbed, or confused. - "I am working/practicing diligently towards purifying and disciplining myself, to be free from ignorance, to attain liberation from suffering, and to attain infinite unlimited and unconditional peace."

There is the existence of the idea of 'I'/the ego/self acknowledgement in the selfless perceptive thinking mind trying very hard to 'find out' and to 'prove' about 'There is no I existing in all and everything.' - "How is it possible that I am existing here and now inquiring towards I am non-existing?" What the mind couldn't understand yet at this stage is that, it is not about the selfless mind itself doesn't exist, or it is not about all kinds of selfless impermanent limited and conditional names and forms don't exist at all, but there is no permanent independent infinite immortal individual existence of I existing in the selfless body and/or mind that only exists momentarily, impermanently, limitedly, and conditionally, and that the selfless impermanent limited and conditional momentary existence and function of the body and mind doesn't even belong to the body and mind itself. - Non-self

There is nothing wrong with all those partial knowledge/understanding and initial observations and practices being initiated under certain desires or motivations, that serve as the medium for the minds that are functioning more or less under the influence of the ego, egoism, impurities, and restlessness, a.k.a. the natural veil of ignorance that is there upon the conscious activation of the modification of the mind under the state of consciousness and semi-consciousness, to be embarking onto the journey of conscious mind evolution.

The mind that is now being rendered less and less egoistic, impure, and restless, is starting to be aware of the presence of the unknown that is limitless, or there are many things that it doesn't know or couldn't understand, or there are still many doubts about many things, and it realizes that all those understanding, observations, and practices themselves don't lead towards the exit/the end from the loop of births and deaths, or the standstill of the wheel of endless births and deaths, as there are 'irrelevance', or 'incoherence', or 'flaw', or 'unrealistic' about all that, because all those understanding/belief/values/observations/practices about 'exiting the loop of births and deaths to be free from suffering and all kinds of limitations and undesirableness', are merely 'something for the mind to hold onto while functioning under the influence of the veil of ignorance perceiving and experiencing all kinds of disturbance, hurts, dissatisfaction, disappointment, untruthfulness, stories telling, bullying ill treatment, violence, cruelty, and undesirable painful physical/mental/emotional suffering' to begin with upon embarking onto the journey of self inquiry and direct self realization towards the truth of selflessness, impermanence, limitation, conditional, and non-self, or unconditional peace under the absence of ignorance, the idea of 'I', egoism, impurities, and restlessness. -

"The more the mind knows and understands under a rendered calm and quiet and focused state of mind, the more it knows and understands that there are many things that it doesn't know and doesn't understand, where what the mind knows is limited, but what the mind doesn't know (the unknown) has no limitation."

And more importantly, is that there is nothing wrong, or bad, or negative, or short-coming, or humiliating, or shameful, or offensive, or criticism/condemn/punishment deserving towards the presence of ignorance and limitation in the mind, or about the mind doesn't know and doesn't understand towards many things that is beyond the reach, awareness, and knowledge of the mind that is limited and conditional. - "Knowing the presence of ignorance and limitation, is indeed the highly precious presence of wisdom"

The realization towards 'the unknown is unlimited' and the realization towards 'the veil of ignorance is merely a common natural manifestation in all minds, upon the presence of conscious and semi-conscious awareness under the state of consciousness and semi-consciousness', is indeed the greatest realization, understanding, knowledge, or wisdom, that will lead the mind towards the annihilation of the passionate egoistic impure restless modification of the mind, to be able to see the truth of everything as it is.

Dissatisfaction, discontentment, or greed has no limitation or boundary, but the presence of some basic correct understanding deriving from the conscious active engagement in some persistent regular yoga and/or buddhism observation and practice will naturally remove the sense of dissatisfaction, discontentment, or greed, as well as all kinds of egoism and impurities from the modification of the mind, little by little. Just like the development of physical stamina, strength, and flexibility, it is possible to be developing, improving, and gaining stamina, strength, and flexibility little by little up to certain extend, under persistent regular stamina, strength, and flexibility training. Although, again, that is not the goal of the practice, or liberation.

The presence of the ego, a.k.a. the idea of 'I', or the conscious self awareness or self acknowledgement, (the mind perceives the existence and function of itself) is neither something bad nor negative. It is a natural phenomena that manifests as it is under the presence of conscious and semi-conscious awareness in the selfless impermanent limited and conditional restless modification of the mind. And due to that conscious self acknowledgement, or the idea of 'I', or the ego, on top of under the influence of worldly passionate egoistic ideas, belief, values, and practice about the existence of a permanent independent infinite immortal unique individual self identity/soul/spirit/consciousness, the mind is being ignorant towards the truth of selflessness in all and everything, especially in all kinds of conscious sentient living organisms, particularly in its own selfless impermanent limited and conditional existence and function that is non-self, that doesn't even belong to the mind itself.

In the beginning, it is the presence of the ego in the selfless mind that was interested in performing certain yoga and/or buddhism practice, or some other name and form of practice, with the intention or desire to gratify its yearning towards liberation from ignorance and suffering, or to know and understand what it doesn't know and doesn't understand. And hence, thanks to the ego, or the conscious self awareness, or the restlessness, or the impurities, or the doubts, or the ignorance, or the perception of all kinds of undesirable limitations/experiences/conditions/situations/relationships and painful physical/mental/emotional suffering, that served as the medium that initiates or motivates the mind to embark onto the journey to be free from all that.

Even though all are selfless, but under the presence of the ego, there arise many different identification and non-identification with many different qualities of names and forms in the mind. - "I am this", "I am that", "I am not this or that."

It is the ego or the idea of 'I' that is the one existing in the mind that is either identifying or non-identifying with this or that.

Under the absence of the ego, there is no idea of 'I' existing in the selfless mind to be identifying or non-identifying with any qualities of names and forms. There is absence of grasping. There is neither "I am this or that" nor "I am neither this nor that".

Upon the silence of the selfless modification of the mind, or upon the absence of the restless egoistic impure selfless thought activities, or upon the absence of conscious/semi-conscious awareness being aware/semi-aware of the existence and function of the body and mind itself as well as the surrounding environment under the state of unconsciousness/deep sleep/coma, who or what is there to be identifying with anything as 'I'?

The all pervading timeless attributeless changeless actionless infinite selfless universal consciousness (that doesn't belong to anyone or anything, that pervades all and everything timelessly, that gives rise to the different states of consciousness as well as conscious/semi-conscious awareness to the selfless perceptive cognitive intellectual emotional thinking and acting faculty of the physical body to be aware of the momentary mortal existence and function of itself and the surrounding environment, that is uncontaminated by all kinds of names and forms being what they are, as they are (constructive or destructive), ceaselessly arising, changing, and passing away at respective cause and pace, governed by the nature's law of cause and effect, where all kinds of selfless impermanent limited and conditional momentary existence and function of names and forms and their respective selfless activities are inter-supporting/impacting all and everything) doesn't has an idea of 'I', or thought activity, or action taking, to be acknowledging itself as 'I', or to be identifying with anything as 'I'.

Self-inquiry to be inquiring towards "who/what am I?" - to know Thyself, is about the mind realizes and knows the truth of Selflessness, Impermanence, Limitation, Conditional, and Non-self in the body and mind, as well as in all kinds of names and forms, regardless of living organisms or non-living objects. It is not about realizing/regaining/reconnecting/re-identifying with an original infinite identity of 'who I really am' that doesn't exist at all.

That is why during the process of Self-inquiry inquiring towards "Who am I?", whatever the mind answers, whatever the mind thinks and believes and understands and identifies as who it is, or who it really is, it's incorrect, it's not the truth.

"All are selfless. All are impermanent," but there is no I existing to be identifying as, "I am selfless. I am impermanent."

Even when the mind deliberately doesn't identify with any qualities of names and forms, while identifying with something identity-less, attributeless, nameless, and formless, such as "I am not this or that", or "I am nobody", or "I am nothing", or "I am selfless", or "I don't have any permanent or impermanent, independent or dependent, infinite or finite individual self identity", or "I am attributeless, nameless, and formless", or "I am THAT", or "I am the selfless identity-less infinite universal consciousness", or "I am one with all and everything", or "I am that I am", or "I doesn't exist", and etc, it is still not free yet, as the idea of 'I', or the conscious self awareness/acknowledgment is still there, trying to inquire or figure out, and identifying as 'who/what I am' and 'who/what I am not'.

Regardless of whether the mind 'thinks' it knows or doesn't know, it is still not free yet. Such as, the mind doesn't know or have any answer to the question of "Who I am?", and hence, it doesn't say anything, but there is still the thinking in the mind that thinks and acknowledges and identifies, "I don't know who I am".

The mind that truly knows and understands, there is only silence. There is neither identification nor non-identification. There is neither "I realize" nor "I know" nor "I understand".  Under the presence of this absolute understanding, there is nothing wrong with carrying all kinds of worldly identifications to be living and moving around and doing something in this world of ignorance and egoism, however the mind knows that all kinds of identifications are only for convenience while being existing and living selflessly and momentarily in this world of ignorance and egoism, but all kinds of different identifications are not the truth of what the selfless body and mind is.

However, the initial practice of non-identification with any qualities of names and forms (Neti Neti) is highly essential and practical for the mind to eradicate the ego and egoism, that eventually will lead the mind towards the direct realization and understanding towards the truth of Selflessness.

Upon the annihilation of the ego and egoism, the mind will realize that Selflessness is nothing to do with the annihilation of the ego and egoism, and the ego is nothing to do with pride and arrogance, or Selflessness is nothing to do with unselfishness and self sacrifice, where Selflessness is merely the truth of all and everything, regardless of living organisms or non-living objects, regardless of the presence or absence of the ego, a.k.a. the conscious self awareness/acknowledgement or the idea/notion of 'I', egoistic or non-egoistic, pure or impure, wise or ignorant, kind or unkind, positive or negative thinking, and so on, where it is the truth of there is no existence of a permanent independent immortal infinite unique individual self identity of an immortal individual soul/spirit/consciousness that exists and resides in the mortal body and mind to be undergoing ceaseless selfless impermanent changes of forming (birth - coming into existence and functioning), ceaseless life maintenance, growth (generation and regeneration/rehabilitation), ceased growing, decay (degeneration), illness, weakness, aging, disintegration, and decompose (death - ceased functioning and existence), or undergoing restless 'births and deaths' transitioning in between 'different realms' (that is referring to the restless impermanent modification of the mind transitioning in between different states of mind), and Selflessness is not a quality or state of being, and is neither a practice nor the fruit/outcome/result of the practice.

The mind will also realize that there were/are many individual unique selfless minds existing and functioning selflessly, impermanently, limitedly, and conditionally, being part of the different selfless mechanisms of the respective many different selfless physical structures of the selfless living organisms that existed/exist under different time (era), space (location), causation (cause and effect), condition, situation, genetic inheritance, characteristic, personality, temperament, behavior pattern, action/reaction and the consequences of action/reaction, where the many different individual selfless bodies and minds existed and functioned/exist and function impermanently and momentarily under the availability of the selfless support of the selfless energy and selfless elements to be functioning as what it is and maintaining life existence up to certain extend, where all kinds of names and forms have a beginning of existence and an end of existence and there are ceaseless impermanent changes in between beginning of existence and ceased existence, but there is only the one same all pervading timeless attributeless selfless universal consciousness that pervades all and everything, that gives rise to the different states of consciousness in the living organisms, that doesn't belong to anyone or anything, that is untouched, uncontaminated, undisturbed, unhurt, undamaged, unaffected, or undetermined by all kinds of selfless names and forms being what they are, as they are, or the different selfless impermanent limited and conditional states of mind of each and every countless conscious sentient selfless living organisms being what they are, as they are, where different countless thoughts/ideas/feelings/emotions/desires come and go, where different states of the different minds manifesting as they are, ceaselessly changing and passing away, governed by the nature's law of cause and effect.

The ceaseless and restless wheel of births and deaths is about the selfless impermanent limited and conditional ceaseless manifestation of countless different names and forms (of countless thoughts, ideas, feelings, emotions, sensations, desires, conditions, conscious and unconscious physical and mental activities for life maintenance, generation/regeneration/degeneration of all the countless cells that form the different components/systems of the physical structure, actions, and reactions/responses towards the mind perception of the internal and external impermanent conditions/situations/names and forms/activities/sights/sounds/smells/tastes/sensations) that ceaselessly arising, changing, and passing away within the selfless body and mind and in the external surrounding environment, but there is no permanent independent infinite immortal individual self identity of a unique individual immortal pure soul/spirit/consciousness, of 'who/what I really am' beyond the impure mortal impermanent limited and conditional existence and function of the body and mind, that exists and resides in the respective body and mind to be undergoing all that, or to be accountable for all that, or to be affected by all that.

The selfless impermanent limited and conditional momentary mortal body and mind is the one that performs/generates countless actions/activities consciously, semi-consciously, and unconsciously, that gives rise to the consequences of actions/activities, that are impacting the internal and external impermanent condition and situation in certain way or not in certain way.

The selfless body and mind is the one that is accountable for all its conscious/semi-conscious/unconscious activities/actions (intentional or unintentional) and the respective consequences of activities/actions, that enjoys or suffers, that is pure or impure, that is kind or unkind, that is peaceful or peaceless, that is selfish or unselfish, that is in doubt and that needs to be free from doubt, that is egoistic under the presence and influence of the ego and that needs to eradicate the ego and egoism, or that perceives restlessness and painful suffering and that needs to be free from all that.

The all pervading timeless attributeless nameless formless actionless selfless universal consciousness is merely the silent witness towards all that, where it is untouched, unchanged, unaffected, undetermined, uncontaminated, undamaged, or unhurt by all that. The countless different bodies and minds/living organisms/non-living objects ceaselessly arising, changing, and passing away, but the selfless universal consciousness is always there as it is, it doesn't come or go.

It is like all kinds of names and forms manifesting under different qualities keep coming and going/arising and passing away in the infinite space, but the infinite space is untouched, unchanged, uncontaminated, unaffected, undamaged, or unhurt by all that. The infinite space doesn't increase or decrease, doesn't become bigger or smaller, doesn't become pure or impure. It is timeless, attributeless, nameless, formless, changeless, non-manifested, unborn, unlimited, unconditional, indestructible, and immeasurable. The infinite space is limitless, it doesn't has a beginning or an end, and it cannot be seen, or heard, or smelled, or touched, or felt, or held, or detected, but it is there, where all and everything manifesting, arising, changing, and passing away upon, under each of their own respective cause and pace. When the entire world, or universe, or galaxy, or all kinds of names and forms disappear, the space is still there as it is, and the timeless attributeless nameless formless actionless changeless selfless universal consciousness that pervades the entire infinite space, is always there as it is.

The mind will also realize towards Timelessness, where there is only NOW, that there is neither past nor future, where all and everything in NOW are ceaselessly arising, changing, and passing away, either are still existing, or had ceased existing, or are in the process of forming/coming into existence/growing/ceased growing/decaying/disintegrating/decomposing/ceased existing, in NOW, and the perception of time, or the idea/notion of past/present/future, or the calculation/recognition/representation of second/minute/hour/day/night/week/month/year, is merely the reflection of ceaseless impermanent changes and all kinds of activities that are happening in NOW.

The ideas/beliefs/values/practices about there is the existence of a permanent independent infinite immortal individual self identity of an unique immortal pure soul/spirit/consciousness undergoing countless reincarnations of countless different separate life existences undertaking different names and forms transitioning between different realms from the past to the present and into the future, a.k.a. the beginningless and endless loop of births and deaths or the restless wheel of reincarnation transitioning between different realms governed by inexhaustible boundless generation and accumulation of 'good/bad/neutral karma', or 'virtues and sins', and all the other types of ideas/beliefs/values/practices under different names and forms, as well as the doubt, fear, craving, aversion, clinging, longing, discontentment, greed, and anticipation that come along with all that, and all kinds of partial incomplete understanding, will naturally become invalid and vanish from the mind upon the direct realization towards Timelessness and Selflessness.

All and everything of all kinds of perceptions/experiences, are being reflected and manifesting in the form of thought process/thought current/modification in the mind that is existing and functioning in NOW, not in the past nor in the future.

In NOW, the mind perceives sights/sounds/smells/tastes/sensations/feelings/emotions/memories/imaginations, the mind perceives/sees/hears/smells/tastes/senses/feels through the senses via the organs of the senses, the mind remembers or doesn't remember, the mind imagines/visualizes/anticipates, the mind recognizes or doesn't recognize, the mind knows or doesn't know, the mind experiences, the mind reasons/analyzes, the mind understands or doesn't understand or misunderstand, the mind desires or doesn't desires, the mind likes or doesn't like, the mind agrees or disagrees, the mind believes or disbelieves, the mind acts and reacts or doesn't act and doesn't react, the mind creates, the mind destroys, the mind is aware/conscious/awake/activated, the mind is semi-aware/semi-conscious/semi-awake/semi-sleep/dreaming/resting, the mind is unaware/unconscious/deep sleep/inactivated, the mind is at ease and at peace, the mind is unease/agitated/disturbed/stimulated/unrest, the mind is depressed/confused/lost/bored, the mind grasps or doesn't grasp, the mind tolerates or doesn't tolerate, the mind enjoys or doesn't enjoy, the mind suffers or doesn't suffer, the mind energized or exhausted, there are ceaseless thought process/thought activities/thought current of countless different ideas/thoughts/thinking/understanding/feelings/emotions/memories/imaginations/anticipations/desires/aspirations/urges/dreams arising and passing away, either consciously, semi-consciously, or unconsciously, and so on.

What is past or future? Everything is in NOW, and they are ceaselessly changing and passing away.

And all that, the subject and the object, the perceiver and the perceived, the experiencer and the experience, the thinker and the thinking, the action performer and the action, or all the names and forms and the different qualities, are all selfless and impermanent, are all limited and conditional, and are all non-self.

If without the body, what is the mind? If without the mind, what is all that? If without the support of the energy and different elements, what is the existence and function of the body and mind? If without the conscious and semi-conscious awareness, what is all that? What is 'I'? What is this or that? What is good or bad? What is pleasant enjoyment or painful suffering?

If without the space hosting the galaxy, the universe, the planets, the stars, the moons, the earth, the livable condition or atmosphere, the sun, the heat, the air, the water, the minerals, the nature, the plants, the diverse living organisms, the gravitation, the movements of the earth, or the energy and all kinds of inter-supporting elements existing and being what they are, what is life existence and life maintenance? What is the body and mind? What is survival instinct? What is consciousness/awareness? What is possessiveness and ownership? What are all kinds of identifications and the sense of belonging/self-esteem/self-worth/pride and shame/superiority and inferiority/status? What is livelihood, or survival, or self-sufficient, or making a living, or job, or business, or money making, or capitalism, or exploitation, or investment, or economy, or prosperity, or the different ways of living/lifestyles/cultures/beliefs/values/practices? What is anger and hatred? What is love and kindness? What is ties and connection or relationship? What is interaction and communication? What is suffering and the end of suffering?

There is nothing belong to anyone or anything, where all and everything are existing and functioning under the generosity of inter-supporting among all and everything, consciously or unconsciously, what is there that cannot let go?

It is absolutely possible to be free from all that ignorance and consequences of ignorance, although it doesn't matter, if the mind is still not free after engaging in all kinds of observation and practice until the end of life existence. But, more important, is there is the understanding of, "It's okay", "All is impermanent", and "There is nothing that can't let go," upon death, and even better, if while still living and functioning, where the mind is aware of all and everything is selfless, impermanent, limited, conditional, and non-self, where under this correct understanding/knowledge/wisdom, the mind doesn't intentionally or unintentionally hurt itself and others and the surrounding environment under any conditions or situations, but making good use or full use of the life existence and function of the body and mind to be doing something beneficial to oneself and others and the surrounding environment.

The belief of good and bad karma

This teaching is for those who want to learn and practice yoga and/or buddhism, and those who think and believe that they are practicing and/or teaching/propagating yoga and/or buddhism.

Under certain worldly passionate egoistic family, cultural, social, spiritual, and/or religious beliefs, ideas, values, and practice, there are minds that believe in good or bad karma, which appeared to be very similar to the teachings of yoga and/or buddhism about the nature's law of cause and effect, or actions and the consequences of actions, but there is a huge difference between 'the selfless nature's law of cause and effect' and 'the passionate egoistic belief of good and bad karma deriving from good/right and bad/wrong conducts/actions/reactions', as what is good or bad, and what is right or wrong, in accordance to the many different worldly passionate egoistic beliefs, ideas, values, and practices, are nothing to do with the selfless nature's law of cause and effect that is merely being what it is, that is non-judgmental and non-discriminate, that is neither good nor bad, neither right nor wrong, neither positive nor negative, neither meaningful nor meaningless, neither joyful nor sorrowful, or neither pleasurable enjoyment nor painful suffering.

The nature's law of cause and effect is merely what things are. It is non-judgmental/non-discriminate and it's not based on the quality of good and bad or right and wrong, being projected and generated by the minds under the influence of ignorance, egoism, impurities, and restlessness. The belief of good and bad karma is not necessarily what things are, and it is judgmental and discriminate, and it's very much based on the quality of good and bad or right and wrong, being projected and generated by the minds under the influence of particular worldly passionate egoistic belief, ideas, values, and practice.

The minds that are practicing yoga and/or buddhism, and have intense yearning towards liberation, and want to attain self-realization to be free from ignorance and suffering, the inquiry or investigation towards the truth of everything, is the fundamental essential practice. Although it's the freedom of all and everyone towards what they want to do and practice, or not.

The yoga and/or buddhism practitioners are never believers or followers, not to say, blind-believers or blind-followers, or blind-practitioners and blind-propagators.

The teachings of yoga, or the dhamma of buddhism, that is all about self-inquiry and self-realization, is neither a belief, nor a practice that promote the generation and accumulation of good karma or avoid the generation and accumulation of bad karma. It's about non-attachment and non-identification towards the actions and the fruit of actions. It's about renouncing the fruit of actions, regardless of what the minds think and believe and judge as 'good and bad', or 'right and wrong', or 'meaningful and meaningless', or 'deserving and non-deserving', or 'pleasurable enjoyment and painful suffering', in accordance to the many different worldly passionate egoistic beliefs, ideas, values, and practices.

The mind that is practicing yoga and/or buddhism is desireless, devoid of craving towards 'good karma' and aversion towards 'bad karma', but all and everyone is responsible for one's actions and the consequences of one's actions, where no other can remove or replace oneself for the effect deriving from the cause that oneself have been generating, and one is not being determined or disturbed by the actions and the fruit of actions being what they are, as they are, regardless of whether they appeared to be pleasant or unpleasant, desirable or undesirable, agreeable or disagreeable, meaningful or meaningless, success or failure, deserving or non-deserving, and enjoyable or non-enjoyable.

The yoga and/or buddhism teachings is about the truth of what things are or truthfulness, by allowing the minds to see, to confront with, and to respect the truth that is not necessarily always pleasant, agreeable, or desirable, and to attain direct realization towards the truth of everything by oneself via an open mind, through self-effort, self-inquiry, and self-realization.

It's never about out of certain possession, identification, affection, concern, fear, or worry towards the world being or not being in certain way in accordance to one's desires and doesn't desires, or agreements and disagreements, or out of selfish intention, desire, vision, and ambition to create a world that one likes and desires, and hence, there are many hypocrisy, untruthfulness, lies, story telling, or fairy tales being generated and propagated, particularly in many things that they don't know, that they don't understand, and that they couldn't explain, to be threatening and conditioning the minds with lots of untruthfulness that gives rise to fear, in order to influence and control the thinking and behavior of the minds to be and not to be in certain way.

The belief of good and bad karma, is being used by the minds to either tempt or threaten other minds to behave or not behaving in certain way. "If you do this, or if you don't do that, you will be rewarded and enjoying. And if you don't do this, or if you do that, you will be punished and suffering." Or it is being used to justify certain things that they can't understand and can't explain, or to justify certain hurtful behavior.

Just as a parent is afraid of the child doesn't behave in the way that it likes and desires, or a leader is afraid of the followers don't behave in the way that it likes and desires, or a teacher is afraid of the students don't behave in the way that it likes and desires, or everyone is afraid of all the others don't behave in the way that each and everyone thinks and believes how everyone should and shouldn't behave. And hence, there are many story telling or fairy tales that are either 'tempting' or 'threatening' the minds to behave and not behaving in certain way.

There are some minds, including the minds that are practicing and/or teaching/propagating yoga and/or buddhism, were/are being conditioned to believe in,

"All and everyone are existing here, experiencing what they are experiencing, is because of their own good and bad karma. Good karma deriving from good and righteous conducts gives rise to pleasurable enjoyment, prosperity, desirable condition, good health, abundance, success, joy, happiness, easiness, or kind treatment, in this present life existence, and will give rise to 'superior reincarnation of a superior next life existence in a superior realm' in the future, and so on, while bad karma deriving from bad and wrongful conducts gives rise to painful suffering, poverty, undesirable condition, ill heath, insufficiency, failure, sorrow, unhappiness, hardship, or ill treatment, in this present life existence, and will give rise to 'inferior reincarnation of an inferior next life existence in an inferior realm', and so on.

All and everyone who had been or were experiencing certain ill treatment, abusive affair, ill heath, bad encountering, painful suffering or difficulties in the past, or are experiencing certain ill treatment, abusive affair, ill heath, bad encountering, painful suffering or difficulties in now, are due to their past accumulation of bad karma either in this present life existence and/or from the many past life existences.

One must receive all kinds of unpleasant conditions, hurtful experiences, corrupted affairs, abusive family ties and relationships, ill treatments, ill heath, painful suffering, or difficulties in silence, in order to 'burn off' the past accumulated bad karma. Where it is 'good' to be suffering as much as possible, while silently 'encouraging' others to behave badly and hurtfully unto oneself, or even coming from oneself generating all kinds of unnecessary damaging effects, difficulties, and inconveniences unto oneself, or punishing/hurting one's own body and mind deliberately under the terms of 'repent' and 'penance', in order to 'burn off' any past accumulated bad karma, that seemingly bottomless.

Meanwhile, in order to avoid any kind of painful suffering or difficulties manifesting in oneself (personal karma) and/or in the collective surrounding environment shared by many others (collective group karma), one needs to be on high alert and be judgmental towards one's and/or others' thinking and conduct, where one and/or others should only generate good karma and avoid generate any bad karma, based on the worldly passionate egoistic family, cultural, social, spiritual, religious, national, political or commercial beliefs, ideas, values, and practices about what is good and bad, what is right and wrong, what is positive and negative, what is appropriate and inappropriate, what is meaningful and meaningless, what is success and failure, what is prosperity and non-prosperity, or what is should and shouldn't.

If someone thinks and believes that itself has been good and kind, and has been performing many good and kind actions, and never did anything bad or wrong in this life existence, but somehow, it is still encountering many badness, undesirable experiences, hurtful affairs, ill treatments, difficulties, or painful suffering, then that is due to the past accumulated bad karma from the previous life existence."

That is everyone's freedom of thinking and belief, reason and understanding, action and reaction.

Inquire towards all these thinking and belief, ideas and values, and practice. These are nothing to do with the teachings and practice of yoga and/or buddhism.

The difference between 'the nature's law of cause and effect' and 'the belief of good and bad karma' -

Under the nature's law of cause and effect -

If apple seed is planted, it will grow into an apple tree, and not a mango tree or a banana tree.

If mango seed is planted, it will grow into a mango tree, and not an apple tree or a banana tree.

And so on.

Does that mean apple is good and mango is bad, or vice versa? Neither.

As simple as that.

Meanwhile, under the belief of good and bad karma -

If one does bad, there is bad karma, and one will be suffering badness. If one does good, there is good karma, and one will be enjoying goodness. What is good and bad, what is goodness and badness, and what is enjoyment and suffering, can be very different under different beliefs, ideas, values, and practices.

Regardless of what or who the mind thinks and identifies as 'I', and whether the mind thinks and believes that it has been good or bad, kind or unkind, selfish or unselfish, healthy or unhealthy, educated or uneducated, knowledgeable or non-knowledgeable, or have been accumulating lots of so called good karma or bad karma, and so on, all and everyone are under going the inevitable process of selfless impermanent changes, of growth, ceased growing, ceaseless maintenance, decay, aging, weakness, illness, ceased functioning, and disintegration/death. This natural process of selfless impermanent changes can be very unpleasant and painful physically and mentally. Does that mean selfless impermanent changes is something related to bad karma?

Selfless impermanent changes is just what all and everything are. It is neither good nor bad, neither positive nor negative, neither meaningful nor meaningless.

If the mind is free from ignorance and egoism, the mind respects the selfless impermanent changes as they are, devoid of craving and aversion towards the body and mind, or towards all kinds of names and forms, experiences, interactions, ties and relationships, affairs, conditions and situations, to be or not to be in certain way, and hence, there is no suffering arise in this mind.

If the mind is under the influence of ignorance and egoism, where the mind has desires of craving and aversion towards the physical and mental condition, ability, performance, and achievement, and towards all kinds of names and forms, experiences, interactions, ties and relationships, affairs, conditions and situations, to be and not to be in certain way, and when the desire of craving and aversion is ungratified, or when the body and mind and something that it perceives and experiences, is not being the way that the mind likes, desires, and agrees with, there is suffering arise in this mind.

It's about one takes responsibility towards one's action and inaction under the influence of one's desires and doesn't desires, likes and dislikes, agreements and disagreements, or understanding and non-understanding, as well as be responsible towards the consequences of that, without self-blame or blame others.

"I believe or disbelieve in this belief," or "I want or do not want to let go this belief," or "I want or do not want to have this relationship," or "I want or don't want to do this," or "I want to be here and live here," or "I want to go and live somewhere else," or "I want to eat here and this," or "I don't want to eat there and that," and so on. It's one's own choice and decision. And no matter the outcome of one's choice and decision and action/inaction is pleasant or unpleasant, desirable or undesirable, and agreeable or disagreeable, one either accepts or doesn't accept, or either be determined or undetermined by all that, it's one's own choice and responsibility.

Even if someone else is making all the choices and decisions for oneself, it is oneself who allows or disallows that to be happening, to accept or reject, and to go along with or not going along with all those choices and decisions made by others. That's why it's one's own responsibility towards all kinds of pleasant or unpleasant experiences, regardless of whether it's one's own choices and decisions, or it's others' choices and decisions.

How common that the mind says, "I am unselfish. I love you very much. I don't do anything for myself. I am doing everything for you, according to what you want and don't want. Because, I want you to be happy. I don't want you to be unhappy. I don't want you to get upset and be angry with me. I want you to love me. I don't want you to dislike me. I am doing all these for you." Nope. The mind is not even aware of itself is being so selfish. Everything is being done in accordance to 'what I want and what I don't want'.

Similarly, regardless of whether under the presence and absence of ignorance and egoism, and whether there is suffering arise in the mind, or not, upon coming in contact with certain names and forms/experiences/conditions/situations/affairs/happenings/ties and relationships that are unpleasant, disagreeable, undesirable, non-enjoyable, hurtful, disturbing, or painful, that are deriving from ignorance and the consequences of ignorance, that are evitable, it is nothing to do with good or bad karma.

The minds that are free from ignorance and egoism, naturally, if they want, they know how to avoid coming in contact with and/or move away from the minds, beings, objects, interactions, dealings, affairs, happenings, areas, conditions, or situations, that are under the influence of ignorance and the consequences of ignorance, as much as possible, to minimize unnecessary damages or energy/life wasting. If it is not possible to avoid coming in contact with or move away from such ignorance, they deal with all that in peace.

Those who are happened to be existing or living in an area that is having all kinds of ignorant affairs, violent and hurtful happenings, or unnecessary evitable damages and painful suffering, that affect all and everyone not only in that area, but also affecting the entire world in certain way, regardless of whether they have been doing something good or bad, right or wrong, and whether they are selfish or unselfish, kind or unkind, it is not because of their bad karma, it's mainly because of the ignorance and the consequences of ignorance, of certain minds that are ignorant, prideful, ambitious, greedy, possessive, selfish, discriminating, hating and violent in this present moment.

The mind will understand all these, knowing what is true or untrue, if it performs inquiry towards "What is time?" / "What is 'I'?" / "What is the thinking mind?" / "What is the modification of the mind?" / "What is past and future?" / "What is selflessness?" / "What is impermanence?" / "What is suffering?" / "What is cause and effect?" /"What is liberation?" under an open mind not being influenced by any particular worldly passionate egoistic beliefs, ideas, values, and practice, and attains direct self-realization towards timelessness, or there's neither past nor future, there is only NOW, and it's changing, or selflessness and impermanence, or knowing Thyself.

Inquire the truth of everything, and be free.

Who or what has a permanent independent individual existence to be under going ceaseless loop of births and deaths?

Upon the annihilation of the ego, or the idea of 'I', that doesn't really exist, but only existing in the form of a continuous stream of thoughts arising and passing away ceaselessly occupying the selfless modification of the selfless mind functioning under the veil of ignorance selflessly that is existing and functioning upon the selfless support of selfless energy and selfless elements, where this idea of 'I' attaching and identifying towards the actions and the fruit of actions, or cause and effect, either enjoying or suffering, or both,

as well as,

Upon the realization towards Selflessness and Impermanence, simultaneously as well, the realization towards Timelessness, Attributelessness, Namelessness, Formlessness, Deathlessness and Birthlessness, upon the annihilation of the selfless modification of the selfless mind, in silence, in stillness, in timelessness, in selflessness, WHO, or WHAT, that has a permanent independent individual existence to be under going the ceaseless restless loop of 'births and deaths' or the restless selfless impermanent changes, in NOW?

If the selfless mind still thinks and believes that there is the existence of a WHO or WHAT that representing itself, or, it's 'I', or 'I' am THAT, that comes with an individual identity under certain attributes, names and forms, that has a beginning which will followed by an end, that has an existence which will followed by non-existence, that means that WHO or WHAT is also conditional and limited, that is subject to selfless impermanent changes, that is under going the ceaseless restless loop of 'births and deaths' governed by cause and effect. It is not real, because it doesn't has a real solid permanent unchanging independent existence.

Similarly, the one, or the selfless impermanent name and form that is under going ceaseless restless loop of births and deaths of impermanent changes selflessly, is something selfless, impermanent, conditional and limited, that is initiating and deriving from cause and effect selflessly, that which enjoys or suffers the effect of cause selflessly. It is not real, as it doesn't has a permanent independent unchanging existence.

If there is something permanent, if that something is permanent that exists independently, it is void of births and deaths, or impermanent changes. What is the ceaseless loop of 'births and deaths'? Who is under going births and deaths? Who is in painful sorrow? Who is suffering? Who is enjoying?

Perform inquiry towards the essential teachings of yoga and buddhism

Just by performing all kinds of yoga practice, breathing exercises, relaxation, cleansing exercises, chanting, concentration and meditation practice regularly for years and years, and experiencing or attaining certain momentary side-effects from the practice, or one has been actively performing many kinds of ritual or charity work, and the mind might feel good, calm and meaningful, but if without working on eradicating ignorance and egoism, it doesn't lead towards self-realization and liberation.

The teachings of yoga and buddhism are not different from one another, even if there are some influences of Hinduism in yoga. Some people might misunderstood that buddhism and yoga is a form of religion belief and practice. They are not a religious belief or practice. The truth of names and forms, of selflessness and impermanence, is not a belief. It's what all kinds of names and forms are. It's science. There's no superiority or inferiority, authority, authoritarianism, miracles, believer, follower, judgment, punishment, or sin. There's only cause and effect, actions and consequences of actions, selfless impermanent changes, suffering, the cause of suffering, the path of self-realization, the selfless practitioner, direct experience and realization, ignorance or void of ignorance.

One doesn't need to have a religion, or believe in 'the creator of the universe' or 'the soul/spirit', to be practicing yoga and/or buddhism, and realize selflessness. One also doesn't need to be physically healthy, fit, strong and flexible, or mentally intelligent and knowledgeable, or perform any ritual, or know any chanting and prayer, to realize selflessness. Regardless of whether one hasn't done any good deeds or one has done many bad deeds, one can still practice yoga and/or buddhism and realize selflessness, under correct understanding and right effort. It's unlimited by any quality of names and forms.

The approach might be different, but the direction and the goal is the same. Both are leading towards non-separateness, or non-discrimination towards all kinds of names and forms being what they are, under the presence of right discrimination or correct understanding.

Self-inquiry towards what is 'I', and inquiring towards the truth of everything, including all the teachings of yoga and/or buddhism is highly important for those who want to attain self-realization towards selflessness, under the intense yearning for liberation. There's neither right nor wrong with certain minds are interested in yoga or buddhism under the ignorant selfish desire of attaining super extra ordinary mind power to be gratifying all desires, to be controlling others to be and not to be in certain way, or to be defying selfless impermanent changes, but that won't lead the mind towards the liberation from ignorance and suffering, or the attainment of self-realization, as the mind doesn't work on eradicating ignorance and egoism.

Not by coming in contact with and knowing the teachings through hearing from someone or reading many books written by someone about yoga or buddhism, but coming from this mind itself to inquire towards the truth of everything. The teachings or the dhamma has no super extra ordinary power, even when one memorizes all the teachings word by word, but it's the direct realization towards the teachings or dhamma, that will liberate the mind from ignorance and suffering.

Siddhartha Gautama never wanted to have all his teachings to be written down in text form, and he insisted that all and everyone must perform inquiry towards the truth of everything, including all his teachings, to be attaining direct realization towards the truth of everything, without blind-believing, blind-following, blind-practicing, blind-agreeing/disagreeing, or blind-propagating.

Even though the truth of everything, or the teachings, or the dhamma, can never be contaminated, or destroyed, or changed, never increased nor decreased, however, the limited reasoning, interpretation and understanding of the minds under the influence of ignorance and egoism can be faulty or corrupted, and hence, misinterpreting and manipulating the truth of everything/the teachings/the dhamma into something else, particularly to be the way that they prefer, like and desire, while the truth of everything/the teachings/the dhamma, is still what they are, not being affected, determined or contaminated by such misinterpretation and manipulation deriving from the wild imaginary passionate egoistic minds functioning under the veil of ignorance, and being conditioned by certain worldly passionate egoistic thinking, belief, values and practice.

Inquire towards these essential teachings -

There's only NOW. Existence, and the mind awareness/perception/cognition towards the selfless impermanent existence, is only in NOW. There's neither past nor future. In NOW, there are selfless impermanent changes. In NOW, some are arising, changing and decaying, some are passing away, some had passed away. In NOW, someone or something is a few hundred or thousand kilometer from here. In NOW, the same someone or something is right here. It is the ceaseless selfless impermanent changes and/or motions in NOW that generates the false impression or perception of TIME, of speed, distance, day/night, week, month, year, past, present and future. In stillness, void of motions, and if without selfless impermanent changes of names and forms happening in the silent infinite limitless space, what is time, or speed and distance, or day and night, or past and future? There's only NOW.

If Swami Sivananda is still living, that selfless physical body would be very old in NOW. If Siddhartha Gautama Buddha is still living, that selfless physical body would be extremely very old in NOW. However, their physical body ceased existing, or are not existing, in NOW. That's all.

Regardless of living sentient beings or non-living objects, all are selfless and impermanent.

The realization towards TIMElessness, or the correct understanding towards TIME, doesn't change or stop the selfless impermanent changes continuously happening in the selfless impermanent existence of all kinds of names and forms in the space of the universe, including the selfless impermanent existence and function of the selfless physical body and the selfless thinking faculty that is here perceiving all these, selflessly. It's solid concrete science. Nothing mystical or magical about the direct realization or correct understanding towards the truth of names and forms, void of ignorance towards the truth of everything.

Upon the direct self-realization towards selflessness, upon the annihilation of ignorance and egoism, upon the annihilation of the restless selfless modifications of the selfless mind (In stillness and silence, void of motions or activities), upon the realization towards TIMElessness, there's neither births nor deaths. Ceaseless births and deaths (ceaseless impermanent changes/ceaseless thought activities arising and passing away) only exist in the names and forms under going selfless impermanent changes and motions.

Why did Siddhartha Gautama Buddha not mentioning or commenting towards 'the creator of the universe' or 'the soul/spirit'?

Why did Swami Sivananda mentioning the same essential teachings or messages repeatedly, over and over again, either during giving dhamma talk, or as written in all his books?

Why both yoga and buddhism emphasized on the annihilation of ignorance and egoism, mind purification, simplicity, contentment (non-greed), non-possessiveness (non-coveting), non-violence (void of anger and hatred), right understanding, right discrimination, right effort, right view, right livelihood, truthfulness, dispassion, desirelessness (non-craving and non-aversion), non-attachment (non-clinging), detachment (letting go), renunciation, seclusion, solitude, self-control, self-discipline, self-effort, self-independence (mental and emotional independence), self-inquiry, self-realization, direct experience, meditation, stillness, silence, non-dualism, oneness, non-separateness, selflessness, intentionlessness, attributelessness, namelessness, formlessness, selfless impermanent changes, unconditional peace, wisdom and compassion?

About Yoga

Know thyself. Everything is impermanent and selfless. There is no 'I'. There is no 'I am selfless'/'I am not selfless'. There is no 'I am hurt'/'I need to be healed from hurt'. Non-blind believing, non-blind following, non-blind practicing and non-blind propagating, but be open-minded to inquire the truth of everything. Be free. Be peaceful. Be happy.
